A lot of people are arguing that melta traditionally one-shot dreads for a long time and this is correct. However in my view, one of the best things that 2.0 did was make dreads actually tough and survivable precisely because they couldn't be insta-killed of have their weapons destroyed etc. Now don't get me wrong, 2.0 had plenty of issues with dreads being a pain but I largely think they got their rules right, they were just way too cheap and shouldn't have been able to be taken in Talons.

Dreadnoughts should be these terrifying monsters on the battlefield, provided they're costed properly. I don't want a return to Dreads being easily killed or feeling feeble.

I think we should wait to see the rules for dreads before making judgements about them. For all we know they'll have Eternal Warrior, the ability to throw Primarchs and eats nails for breakfast.

Or they could be softer than Silly Putty.

It's easy to take a marketing blurb about Meltas doing 6 damage as proof Dreads are DOA, but all I really take out of it is Deredeos will have 6 wounds.

Any maybe melta will become a major threat for Dreads, but with its short range and often squishy platform it means there is counterplay to melta we don't have with lascannons since it's effective range is shorter than even the bolter's.

And there is a possibility that it could be more expensive in points as well, especially on platforms like Jetbikes or Landspeedees who have a much higher mobility.

It's easy to make assumptions that the game will be bad because of a, b, or c when we don't know about the rest of the alphabet.

Funny enough I just realised that two contemptors with multimelters could easily kill each other due to reactions if those stay the same.

Double Kill, Kill, Kill

There's that 40k lethality arms race

Interesting to see the new Rapiers and Tarantulas on pre-order before Saturnine, hopefully means 3.0 not far out now.

Iirc according to that one reliable TGA post, it'll be Cathay the week after, then another thing, then Saturnine - so a July 5th pre-order if they're right...?

(FWIW they were correct about Chaos Knights for this week as well).

Wasn't it supposed to be Ideoneth before cathway? It doesn't alter when the 3.0 preorder drops (though late for a GW launch box)

You may very well be correct. This is why I shouldn't trust my memory and just go find the source.

To be fair, your memory still may be correct given they're having a cathay design team roundtable on WarCom this week, a good indicator of an imminent release.

Will definitely have to pick up some graviton rapiers in honour of this forum's greatest 30k tactician, the legendary Hesh Kadesh. Long-time B&C 30k fans will remember his relentless promotion of these mighty weapons. Hope he's doing well these days.

Never forgotten! I guess @Hesh Kadesh played a big part in my decision to buy some grav cannons.

I believe they are, data cards are £19. If I knew how to work out the US tax that GW adds on, we could use that to reverse engineer the typhon price

In that case, find something that's $170US on the site, it'll then be the equivalent price. So if a knight lancer was 170US then it'll be whatever you pay for a knight lancer in your own currency.

60 USD would be about 50 euro with GW conversions, which seems rather :cuss:ing excessive for 2 tarantulas.......

Probably still cheaper than the old offering of one resin tarantula, which the only price I could find so far was £29 back in 2012.

Edit: According to miniset; one HB tarantula was £21 in 2021, one lascannon tarantula was $41 in 2024, so it probably still shakes out to cheaper than previos iterations.
