As much as it pains me to say it, the Baneblade is also eighteen years old, so there's probably some New Kit Inflation going on. I only mention it because if I had to suffer the Psychic Damage of knowing that, so do others.

Man I was hoping some different paint schemes might turn me around, but the changes they made to the kit are definitely a downgrade for me. Don't think I'll be picking this one up.

It looks so good in Imperial Fist colours. The best colours of the best Legion (not an opinion, just a fact). I might get two. Is £130 a lot of money - yes. Is it worth it (to me) - yes.

The Spartan is already painted. I'll wait for the falchion/ glaive though. None of those uncouth shells for the 3rd. Clean energy weapons all the way :)

It's a bit more expensive, about 4.70 USD higher though that's not going to be exact as it's converting from my local currency.

It possibly has the price increase already baked in, as it comes into effect early October, around the time the kit will hit the stores.

Can't recall the old recipe, but Contrast through an airbrush over a gold primer tends to be the way to achieve that these days.

This was supposedly the recipe back when you could e-mail them to ask:

Metallic Scheme:

It is black undercoat, airbrush with Iron hands FW paint leaving the lower parts of the armour plates black, airbrush upper parts of the armour plates with runefang steel as a highlight.

Then a few thinned layers of clear red are airbrushed all over, waiting for the previous layer to dry before applying the next (so it would be useful to paint large batches of marines at the same time).

Shade the recesses with nuln oil and then weather the edges with runefang steel.

The gold is retributor gold, shaded with seraphim sepia and highlighted with runefang steel.

The brass is runelord brass, shaded with seraphim sepia.

The eyes are painted black, single line in the centre with white and then washed with FW clear green paint.

The white on the bolters and legion icon is celestra grey, ulthuan grey and then white highlights. The hollow tactical arrow is from the Iron Warriors transfer sheet.

 

 

The 'clear red' in this case probably being Tamiya Clear Red or Angron Red, but as Joe says you can get a similar effect with Contrast paints these days (Duncan has a good tutorial for it):
