My plans so far are buying the box, read the rules, play the game.

Pretty straight forward.

So far every nugget of rules sounded very good to me so I am positive.

What I won't donis get the physical books this time.

A) they were terribly made in 2ed

B If we really go on a 3years circle I won't pay 300 euros each time for books. At least if they look as cheap and the fluff so basic like the 2ed ones.

If they surprise us with top notch books which are a feast to the eyes I will change my mind dramatically of course and consume like mad ut we will see when we see.

Ha ha....no.  I'm torn on whether to get one, actually.  I'll probably do it, but the box on its way now is old Iron Tenth FW models that sat in a pile of shame for years.

HH IH always had some good sculpts. Sounds like a good start.

The box doesn’t appeal enough to me to get it on launch. I still have bits of the AoD box unbuilt as well! So other than the rules and Liber, I’m not sure what I’ll put up in launch.

Once the second wave comes…oh boy. Breachers and some MkII Assault Marines for Locutarus (if they’re still a thing).

So the new boxset has been released and given we now have an idea of rules, thought it would be worthwhile to give this thread a bump. And, especially as some people now have elements of their armies invalidated ny 3.0 and are looking for other options.

One idea is that this new box is basically Crusade-era, and probably fits that more than the dropsite massacre they are going with officially. Friend and I are thinking of doing some 'Great Crusade' type campaign, either using 40k 2nd ed or shadow war: armageddon (if we go really low miniature count). Does anyone else have any thought on suitable rulesets that aren't 3.0?

My current thought is just use 2.0 or allow 2.0 options with 3.0 point costing.

Eg. I have a 10 man Night Raptor squad and every one of them has been converted to have a chainglaive. Night Lord chainglaives still exist and have a points cost in 3.0 so just pay that points cost. I think most reasonable people would be cool with that and those who aren't are probably not people I want to play a game with anyway.

I paint so slowly it'll be at least 4th edition before I get an army on the table anyway, so I'm just going to keep working on my Dark Angels. I plan to play some OPR Firefight at some point, though.
Mostly I'm looking forward to getting the kits we've seen teasers of like the breachers. Hoping we see some good stuff in the journals, too.

@Pacific81 Shadow War is a really good idea.

At the moment it's unclear if anyone nearby is actually going to play 3.0, so I'm going to keep plugging away at my backlog, but where possible build units so they are both 2.0 and 3.0 coompatible, even if it makes them sub-optimal for both or they need a 11th man for subs.

In my case things are clearing a little more. My plan now is get the Saturnine box and, probably a box of Rapiers. 40 mk2 marines are more than enough for a pair of Vets squads and a Tactical of 20.

I've ordered the saturnine box and liber hereticus. I've somehow managed to paint 8k of Alpha Legion in 2.0, my plans for 3.0 would be to make and paint the Mechanicum battle force and heavy support boxes, and I kind of feel like I want to add a bit more to my blood angels. The saturnine ranged models will be going to the alphas, I'd like to paint a veteran squad with disintegrators as AL Rangdan veterans, one unit of 10mk2 for the blood angels. I probably won't but a second box like I did for ages of darkness. I have so much Mk6
