Inquisition: Ordo Machinum

Hello!

I have a question regarding cannon lore, would be very thankful if someone could point me in the right direction:

what are the Ordos of the inquisition? - I know there are the 3 big ones:

Hereticus/Malleus/Xenos - but Im looking for a "lesser known"/smaller Ordo: Machinum (The Judicators of the forge)

The only thing I could find about it was this Lexicanum entry that points to Codex: Inquisition (6th Edition) as source
(the other source "The Inquisition illustrated guide" only mentions the "three major Ordos" - which at least points to there being more than those 3)

I do not have the 6e codex and the one codex of the inquisition (not "Imperial Agents") I could find does not mention the Machinum (or any other of the lesser known Ordos)

I did find what Im assuming is a print screen of a scan somewhere that mentions other Ordos:

  • Chronos
  • Scriptorum
  • Machinum
  • Sicarius

I wanted to know if these are cannon and if so where can I find mention of them?

thank you in advance,
by His will.

Ordo Machinum - Also known as "The Judicators of the Forge," the Ordo Machinum scrutinises the Adeptus Mechanicus. Specifically, they are concerned with the reintegration of recovered STC variants into the Imperium's armies and the rare adoptions of alien technologies into established Mechanicus protocols. Inquisitors of the Ordo Machinum often accompany Adeptus Mechanicus technoarchaeological teams to distant worlds, the better to see for themselves exactly what has been recovered. They often work in concert with the Ordo Xenos -- especially when the world in question has been under alien control or there is any suggestion of non-Human origin for the technology the Adeptus Mechanicus seek to recover.

It's from fandom. There is a lot information about, don't sure that a current cannon.

I haven't seen any GW development of any minor orders, though if such has occurred, I would expect it to occur in their Black Library materials, so maybe the folks in that forum might be better positioned to help you.

I would expect that the "minor orders" comment is simply there to give hobbyists (and to a lesser extent their authors) agency to create their own stuff and not feel shoehorned by the existing material.  There are a ton of those little "loop holes" in GW material, dating back (at least) to their being 20 space marine chapters, 2 of which absolutely nothing is known about.

So, as to be expected, a lot of what you'll find about this little niches created by GW is that they will be filled by fans exploring the 40K universe through their own lense - so, not a bad thing, but something you should be aware of if you are wanting to stick with what is canon.

Hello everyone! Ill post here in hopes anyone can help me:

Im currently doing research on the Ordos of the Inquisition, I have seen many mentions of the 3 major ones (Hereticus/Malleus/Xenos)
However, I have seen some (unofficial) mentions of other Ordos such as:

  • Chronos
  • Scriptorum
  • Machinum
  • Sicarius

However I have found these in a weird pdf that I cannot call "official" with a high degree of certainty.

I am looking specifically for mentions of Ordo Machinum, I have found this Lexicanum entry that mentions the following as source:

  1.  Codex: Inquisition, pg. 18
  2.  White Dwarf 457 pg.56

The #2 source does not seem to have any mention of the Machinum, but the Codex, according to this french lexicanum entry has it:

This is how far I have gotten and from what I understand the only official mention is in this Codex: Inquisition (6th Edition) - I cannot find it anywhere to make sure it is there tho, so Im asking for your help, you have access to this codex/know where I can find the codex, or have more information on this, please share!

thank you in advance,

by His will.

Note that I moved the topic that was created in the Black Library forum as that was misplaced. That forum is for discussion of the Black Library fiction. This topic is about the organization, so + The Imperium of Mankind + forum is the correct location (since this is where the Inquisition is discussed). Also, I merged the new topic with the original.

@kabaakaba provided a serviceable summary of the Ordo Machinum, but here's the quote from the codex:

Just as the Ordo Hereticus pay close attention to the Ecclesiarchy, the Ordo Machinum scrutinise the Adeptus Mechanicus. Specifically, they are concerned with the reintegration of recovered STC variants into the Imperium’s armies and the rare adoptions of alien technologies into established Mechanicum protocols. The purpose here is twofold. Firstly, the Ordo Machinum ensure that laxness on the part of the Omnissiah’s worshippers does not permit a flawed technology to enter the Emperor’s service. More importantly, the Ordo Machinum ensures that no Magos is tempted to withhold vital systems from other factions of the Adeptus Terra with a view to increasing the Adeptus Mechanicus’ power within the Imperium.

Inquisitors of the Ordo Machinum often accompany Adeptus Mechanicus archaeological teams to distant worlds, the better to see for themselves exactly what has been recovered. They often work in concert with the Ordo Xenos – especially when the world in question has been under alien control or there is any suggestion of non-human origin for the technology the Adeptus Mechanicus seek to recover.
