Sume
Hello again. Been a few months since I last did anything with my necrons. Managed to acquire some missing pieces. I was planning to use Necrons for the narrative event in Dallas, TX back in May. Then things got changed to orks and then in March I was given a huge surprise with being gifted the Emperor's Children box set. I actually ended up painting and planning for EC. Then due to my misunderstanding of crusade rules and the player packet myself and friend made 1500 lists when we needed 1k. My EC was a huge mess getting it back down to 1k points. To compound the issue the event used the Nachmund gauntlet rules. So, you needed to divide your force into 3 waves. With a primary wave being 400/500/600 and then each wave is 200/250/300. It sure made list building a challenge. Was amazing to see boards loaded with so much terrian. Made things a challenge but helped my poor Noise Marines from being instantly melted. Feel free to go check out my blog posting in the EC section. Probably describes my journey with it better. Anyway I try to make a blog to help keep myself motivated and get feedback as things come together. At least with photos I noticed mistakes not immediately apparent. My original plan to paint necrons was with a turquoise plate armor and markings. With a bronze robot frame. Leaving me uncertain about the gun casings. My necron glow being purple. Then as my necrons were originally intended to be used as a doubles force with tyranids. Basing theme needed to be cohesive. Myself and friend decided upon a ruined temple mountain top idea with some snow effects. Now due to kinda needing to paint things asap for Tacoma WA mid July. I stumbled upon a YouTuber by the name of Midnight Blue. That has done a sandstone necrons force with a blue glow. That I feel like I can replicate everything he did in about a 3 to 5 day time frame to account for drying time, sleep and work. I am a big fan of Egyptian themed things and necrons are really space undead. That I am going to try and incorporate as much of the original planned basing materials with this as I already have it. Purposed changes to the sandstone necrons includes sandy bases, with rock and temple basing bits from gamers grass. Mostly like not going to rip anything off bases that was acquired pre assembled as I don't want to chance to break spindly necron bits. Have turquoise, bright blue, bright pink, black, toxic green, purple, frosty blue and snowy gamers grass tufts. I know it's a bit much as some if it was intended for the necrons, orks and EC with 1k sons. Then plan to mix the sand area up with the same crackle medium placed on the necrons. I am still debating between the original purple glow or go with a hot neon pink. I am leaning towards the pink as I enjoyed how it turned out on my EC stuff and also cause we got a bunch of greenstuff world floursent glow pink. Leaves me with adding or not adding tufts. Only thing I am not sure about how to paint is the glowing effects. Been watching tutorials but nothing has stuck yet. Any recommendations would be great. With or without an airbrush. I am still a novices to airbrushing though. Anyway my purposed Annihilation Legion list for the Tacoma narrative is down below. I separated it into waves and didn't think through any extras for the crusade narrative pool. Only thing I dislike is this destroyers and currently don't have a second box of odydian destroyers (hopefully we get more). All are min units unless otherwise noted. Primary wave: Skorpek lord with anti fall back enchantment 1 Skorpek destroyer 1 obydian destroyers 3 lokust heavy destroyers with anti infantry gun 1 destroyer lord, staff of light, orb (warlord) 1 reanimator Deepstrike wave: 10 deathmarks 1 hexmark Firepower wave: 3x destroyers 2 lokust heavy destroyers with anti tank gun As you can see only thing I am not really happy with are the destroyers and could move the obdyian destroyers into one of the waves but I am not sure what to replace with. I am also assuming any leftover points from a secondary wave can't be used. As I think I'd be better off with a 2nd unit if Skorpek destroyers or a 2nd Skorpek lord. I will probably end up painting one or both options in case spill over is allowed. I didn't like that a squad of 3 destroyers only gets 6 shots and I am also accounting for the new 1k balance of rule of 2, 4 battleline and dedicated transports. The list seems very much like spamming but I tried to get as much units taking advantage of the detachment rules as possible. With deathmarks having native Deepstrike and the reanimator is there to help keep things healed, hold an objective and provide as a distraction carnifex. Sume
I will try and provide pictures as this comes along. I am done with all the washes, and priming of base colors. Ready to move onto the drybrushing part of the sandstone. Then its time to decide if I want a purple, pink or a magenta like glow. Also, been given some crystals to add to the bases. Will just prime those separately and paint and add them later. Since, I have moved past the crackle paint stage of bases and on the models, along with the asphalt like texture paint that I am using as a sand. Sume
I apologize for the lack of an update and pictures. Been way to hot for over a heat in my area. I ended up putting aggros duneshade contrast paint over the necrons. As they looked too boney for me. Then I started to fill in the areas I wanted glow with white from Pro Acrylic. Then decided the necrons looked a little flat after the contrast paint. Went back with a very light dry brush with palid wytch flesh and much happier with the result on it. They look very much like sandstone and the few skulls I littered the bases with actually pop now from the sandstone base. I watched a bunch of videos during the week on different OSL and necron blades, and glow effects. A technic I am not very familiar with. Along with how to use fluorescent paints. I decided upon a purple glow using flor purple and pink. I think that will look good. If I dont manage to get any WIP pictures. I'll try and get the finished pictures for sure. I been given some crystals to add to the bases but I am not sure about them yet. Do have a bunch of different colors of gamer's grass flowers and tufts that will definitely be added to the bases. Sume Posted yesterday at 06:03 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 06:03 AM I still keep forgetting to get pictures of the necrons. So, far at the Tacoma narrative event. The annihilation Legion is doing well. Turns out no waves but some changes to the Armageddon campaign. Which is the missions packet we got. Makes me wish I had not taken the deathmarks and reanimator and added flayed ones and more destroyers of some kind. Oh well. Did get more obdyian destroyers and 9 more destroyers. Will need to convert up the new destroyers when I get home later. A lot of people love the sandstone necrons with the pink and purple glow.
