Could this pass as a Dark Angel Damocles?

I'm not a great painter - I'm fine at the broad strokes of it, but I can't edge highlight or line wash and I'm not airbrushing, so I drybrush.

 

I know I can pass this off as Iron Hands without much bother - metallic scratches and a few spot colours - but I have no real affinity for them as a legion or story.

But HH dark angels have a much more Knightly theme with pesky red squares and smooth coloured bands and are a bit more artsy.

 

I know it's 'your dudes your rules', but If I go down the Iron Hands route I know I'll lose interest because I just don't care enough about them, but if I go down the Dark Angels route then I want them to pass as dark angels and not just iron hands with wings, you dig?

 

Anyway, what say ye?

Yeah, it's fine.

 

If you really want to distinguish it maybe do a couple of spot panels in red to break it up. Obviously to what your capable of doing but panels are usually more comfortably achievable than checks or fhe full-vehicle bands.

Or how are you with decals? 

 

All that said, if you put this on a table in front of me exactly as it is and say it's Dark Angels I would have no problems at all.

Yeah, it's fine for DA. Too much gold for the Xth, if you ask me.

Paint the sword/wing icon on it to make the point clear and then, yes.

I like it. I'll echo the sentiment that it would benefit from a touch of red on it somewhere, though.

Looks good for Dark Angels. A lot of the 40k transfer sheets have chequer patterns these days, so this might be an easier way for you to incorporate it?
