Interesting to again get a Marine KT with a mix of Phobos and regular PA.

Nice that it includes a Infernus Marine, a few people thought that should have been an option in the Angels of Death team.

I wonder if it means a new separate team, or perhaps (what I would prefer) a new AoD team list with a few more options of Operatives?

I'm... not that impressed?

No captain, no real note worthy pose save for perhaps the phobos guy landing on a rock which causes it to break upwards. But even then that feels barely noticeable. Sergeant's neat, but feels like a repeat of the sternguard one from Leviathan.

Also, no way to ensure a full team, really puts a dampener on my wish to try it out

I’d have bought these regardless but no guarantee from a full display is a dealbreaker for me.  Maybe they come out as an entire Kill Team or board game later.

No plasma, GW???

There is nothing remotely DA about these models.

Just call them space marines and end it at that.

And I get it, it pays more to sell to ALL space marines and not just DA but then don't bother calling them DA.

As a kill team I am sure they'll be good for a while. As added model variety even though fairly basic looking they will be a welcome edition to vary up your army.

BUT:

This is just putting more power in the hands of scalpers.

I did not see the odds posted. I think they have to in certain countries.

but you buy a case - 8 boxes and you will not get a full set. This is just the latest in their gotcha gamble system. No thanks.

Maybe they will be sold in a starter box, but even the other hero's don't have their own kill team box.

so either you'll gamble gamble gamble until you get lucky and likely sell off the extras. OR you'll go to EBAY or where ever and empower the 2nd hand market.

There was nothing wrong with their old system, they just didn't earn enough money from gambling. which is pretty sad.

I like the models well enough, they are generic, but literally every heroes set that wasn’t plague marines has been. The pose variations, whilst minor would be nice additions, much like the last set.

but, like others, the fact you can’t just get them in a single purchase is an instant no-go even for me

Space Marine Heroes models are always generic (not counting the Death Guard series). They're "Dark Angels" only because they're green. This is similar to how the previous runs were "Blood Angels" only because they were red. The benefit of these models is that they give hobbyists slightly different poses, allowing for a little more variation in their armies. I don't think I need to comment on the [perceived] "drawbacks" of this run as other hobbyists have beaten me to it.

The real attraction of the Space Marine Heroes line is that they allow you to see if you can hook some prospective hobbyist into the plastic crack addiction with a cost-effective purchase (i.e., one relatively cheap model as opposed to a whole boxed set). The push-fit allows the prospective hobbyist to get a model together without having to do all of the cutting, filing, and gluing (and drilling of barrel holes!). It's a sort of miniature wargame hobbyist honey trap.

What I'm looking forward to is the possibility of one or more of the following:

  • Inclusion of these miniatures in a new Space Marine Adventures game (great gateway games)
  • The sale of all of these models and their cards as a boxed set for Kill Team
  • And if we're really lucky (?), we might see these as a made-to-order set allowing you to order option later on down the road, as we saw with the Terminators last year.

All three of these options allow hobbyists to purchase each (all) of the desired models without the risk of the blind buy (I hate that sales model).

Despite this, they could have made it DA themed. There are no power swords, plasma, chaplain, terminator, etc. Why even have a chapter at all? Could just make it completely generic or just stick with ultramarines if its just bolter marines.

Even among the dark angels, 50% or so of the chapter is just "bolter marines".

I dunno i don't quite get the "It's not Dark angels!" train going here. Is it because the OP post called the thread such? Is it because GW decided to print it in green plastic and paint the promotion as Dark Angels? This set is as much (and as little!) Dark Angel as season 2 was Blood Angel.Aside from the weirdly specific DG specific Season 3, these are always completely generic.

The problem with this set I feel is that is pretty much the least inspired season to date. There's about 1 noteworthy pose among them, and only the sergeant seems to have any noteworthy detailing and then just barely. The unrevealed phobos lieutenant also doesn't seem like he's going to blow me away.

EDIT: Oh and the not guaranteed full set from a box of 8. Interestingly though, I feel this set is so uninspired, that the value in a full set is quite diminished too. I dunno. There's just very little that pulls at me. I might just swipe to of the overly common ones cheaply off of ebay, and that's just because they fit the bill to finish a project of mine I started with the last set....

Meh. None of the sculpts are so good that I'd buy one off of eBay, but I might take a chance and scoop one up when I'm at a FLGS playing- I like to make some small purchases when there isn't a table fee just to give back to the store. Not a huge fan of rando boxes, but after having some good luck with BT salvage boxes I'll give this a go. Most of the models I can use to make one-off Captains/Lieutenants in various armors, only the Infernus marine needs a lot of work to character-up.

Not nearly as good as it could have been, but I'll be fine chancing one or two boxes even so.

This always happens with any of the Chapters "known" for a "thing", so if they don't do the "thing" it's done wrong. There was a huge kerfuffle in Space Marine 2 spaces when the Salamanders skin was revealed to be a Sniper (with the justification to give him a scaled cloak, and cloaks are kept to the sniper class for visual identity) and the amount of actual unfiltered whining was incredible, with unironic claims that the Devs didn't "get it"

People want their flanderization.

Now you know how Ultramarine, Imperial Fist, etc players feel.

The models are fine. It's a unique kill team, and you can assemble them from generic kits if you want to use the actual rules in the game but don't want the trouble of collecting the models.

I love how immersive these models are. It´s just like in the game when you have put your units in Reserve and they only show up when you don´t fumble your Reserve rolls.

Not sure how accurate it is, but saw someone elsewhere say that with the last Age of Sigmar box, the hidden miniature was roughly 1 in every 4 fullcases. So that's a 1/32 chance if that's correct. That's a huge change from the 1/8 they all had originally.

Imagine spending £300+ to get a single space marine, and then them looking this bland and uninspired.

I missed out on the Plague Marine blind boxes, then succeeded on getting them on a later release.

I missed out on the Angel of Death blind boxes and then both sets came out in the KT starter set. Which I won't buy as I have Hivestorm and the Plague Marines.

I won't be buying these.

I think my biggest gripe, is I’d have liked to see more characters like the grenade one from the last batch. How body and pose just doesn’t exist in existing kits and he had a cool bionic arm too. Very unique. I actually really liked the last batch and have them integrated into existing units

id do the same for these if I could guarantee getting them in one pop
