Not an enormous surprise but Chris Wraight kicking it off is a good start.

Was bound to happen eventually. Hopefully they've learned some lessons from the way the heresy novel series was managed.

As funny as you put it, I 'really' hope this happens down the line. Basically just 1st/2nd Edition 40K, but again! So many cool models they could remake. :P

That's probably not gonna happen until all the Firstborn Marines have left the main 40k.

 

Also, "40k TOW" isn't a very good name for that hypothetical system.

How about leaning into the early 40k timeline events and go for Badab War?

Yeah, also it’s currently an undefined length (and even the last defined length series ended up being longer than they said). I’m not trying for 60 LE’s haha

May I ask what you mean by this? (Just started the Horus Heresy series, so I’m intrigued).

Interested in the potential of this but struggled to finish Siege as it was soooo strung out (still got the last book to read). Hopefully they don’t stretch this out too much.

I’m actually really excited for this. I hope they plan for a longer series from the get-go so we get more slow burn character development. The Heresy series is amazing but it’s hard not to imagine the what-if of Horus’s gradual fall if they had known from the start the series was going to be more than a handful of books. His characterization in Horus Rising is top notch and I wish we had had more time to see that version of him.

Whilst I'm always thrilled to see a book release from Chris Wraight, I can't help but feel GW are milking all this a bit too much.

 

It's starting to feel like Disney just creating shows and films to tell stories set between other stories in which we already know the full outcome like what happened with Star Wars.

There's a special brand of incompetence hell for the kind of mismanagement that brand went through. Thourogly off topic though but suffice to say we're not even close to that.

I am somewhat torn on this. On the one hand, I don't really feel we need another mega-series and I am also somewhat apprehensive of what Evil Eye calls the "demystification" of the setting (or the setting's past, as it may be).

 

On the other hand, the Scouring is a potentially interesting setting that we don't know all that much about - in my wildest dreams, I could see it kicking off a lot of interesting and creative things from the community; who knows, maybe we'll see the Scouring as a popular setting for fans to explore on their own (before the potential game, if it turns out like the Heresy). Actually, I could almost kinda-sorta see myself doing a Scouring army instead of a Heresy army, as I'm not very keen on what we've seen of HH 3rd ed. and I have a lot of Heresy stuff lying around.

 

Right now, I find myself swinging like a pendulum from "eh, whatever" to "hey, this is exciting!", which is pretty unusual for me.
