Guard have two different types of horse mounted units, so I don't think its impossible that marines would get bikes and jetbikes. I imagine they'll do something similar to guard where the jetbikes get a scout move and better shooting, while the bikes get better melee.

From the Salamanders Combat Patrol description:

"The Assault Intercessors can build an optional sergeant, who can be armed with a heavy bolt pistol, inferno pistol, or plasma pistol..."

I realize GW is always the last to know about their own product, but maybe someone nicer than me can let them know that a Hand Flamer is not an "Inferno Pistol."

I mean, it's not like the Assault Intercessor squad kit has been out for almost five years OR that we just had a big Blood Angels refresh with multiple examples of what an Inferno Pistol actually is...

In fairness the inferno Pistol could get a name change as it doesn't quite match the naming conventions of other weapons...

As a BA main, you leave our inferno pistols alone.

we’ve taken far too many L’s this edition already, don’t give GW any ideas

I wouldn't care if the name changed, really, as long as we still had melta pistols I'm still a fan. Eradicator Pistol does sound pretty cool.

Yeah it absolutely should keep it's profile as is. I just mean that "inferno" elicits the mental image of a flame, not a melta weapon.

Melta has words like "fusion" or "magna" associated with it. The inferno pistol is actually an oddity in naming convention.

I seem to recall that it was originally unique to Dante and is of course a reference to Dante's Inferno. Then it got made more generic and Dante's was renamed as the Perdition pistol to represent its unique nature.

Yeah. I'd assume that "Dante's Inferno Pistol" was a cute little joke that got lost at some point.

Yeah that's awesome.

"Dante's Inferno pistol" is a great name for a bespoke weapon belonging to a chapter master.

But the generic variants probably should just be called Melta pistols.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I would SWEAR it used to be called the inferNUS pistol when I started with BA.

It was called the Inferno Pistol in 2nd edition when Dante first came out but it might have been Infernus in one of the intermediate editions.

In 4th it became "perdition pistol" (you know, the edition they came up with the brilliant idea of a WD codex), Matt Ward tried to correct it in 5th but the best he could do was "infernus pistol" and finally in 7th we returned to "inferno pistol".

Yeah, my intro to BA was the PDF Codex (was that 5th?), and I was sure it was Infernus. Only because I remember being surprised when it became "Inferno." I never thought either name was great for a Melta pistol.

I've just checked my copy of the paperback Codex BA got in 5th, and both Dante's and the generic version are called Infernus Pistol. By the time their 7th edition Codex went to the printers it was changed to Inferno Pistol. According to the archived version here: https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1643573489825.pdf BA 4th edition Codex published in WD, showed Dante's pistol as Perdition, and there was no generic Melta Pistol available to them.
