Worth buying a set for the shoulder pads alone for me to slap them onto firstborn Deathwatch!

Even more so if Gravis Pads = Terminator pads... I know I used Terminator pads on my Aggressors. I HATE how few Terminator pads come on the DW upgrade sprue- it should be five.

Is the top of the power backs on these models a new design?

It's similar to the Mk8 power packs from previous DW minis, likely adopted as an aspect of DW design language, like the extra elbow plate and chest bags.ArtemisDM.thumb.jpg.f8ec4613b43f32c5e0b21f40a716a78f.jpg

Knowing that I'd have to buy two new Kill Team kits to get the number of Deathwatch marines that are in this box makes the price less of a barrier. I also have NO Necrons yet, and my collecting style is to have a little of everything and only go all in on the stuff I truly love. I though about starting Crons in 9th when they were in all the starter boxes, and I didn't; I've been kinda looking for an excuse/ opportunity to buy in when it's part of an added-value offering... And this is it,,, Especially since there are Two Cron units in the box if you include the NPO's.

This will probably be the only season box I can afford though- I have to snap up the Drukhari Combat Patrol from my the shelf of a local store before it disappears forever- it just sold out online in the Canadian webstore this week.

To clarify, you're praising an insanely priced box having a high discount because they'll try selling 5 mono pose deathwatch marines for £40+?

I really wish they hadn't included the first founding chapters pads, the old kit had the same problem. At least they made the effort to put three of them on Phobos pads to make them more unique I suppose. I also wish they would have cut some of the bare heads and replaced them with more unique chapter pads, I think most people buying DW will already have a pile of heads that would make Genghis blush.

Out of personal interest, the new kit is gaining sculpted iconography for:

  • Brazen Skulls, Mortifactors, etc
  • Excorcists
  • Wolfspear
  • Emperor's Spears
  • Scythes of the Emperors
  • Storm Lords
  • Blood Knights, Guardians of the Covenant, etc
  • Red Scorpions
  • Iron Snakes
  • Black Talons
  • Lamenters

They are keeping:

  • Iron Hands
  • Brazen Claws, Red Talons, etc
  • Salamanders (now Gravis)
  • Raven Guard, Hawk Lords, etc (now Gravis)
  • Imperial Fists, Crimson Fists, etc (now Gravis)
  • Dark Angels (now Gravis)
  • Flesh Tearers (now Gravis)
  • Novamarines, Metamarines, etc (now Gravis)
  • Ultramarines (now Phobos)
  • Blood Angels (now Phobos)
  • White Scars (now Phobos)
  • Raptors, Mentors, etc (now Phobos)
  • Brazen Minotaurs, Taurans, etc (now Phobos)

And they are losing:

  • Space Wolves (Blackmanes)
  • Silver Skulls
  • Black Templars, Hospitallers, etc
  • Howling Griffons, Knights of Gryphonne, etc
  • 'Blackshield'

//

I guess losing the Space Wolves (Blackmanes) and Black Templars makes sense, given the abundance of their own kits... though on second thought, the new Space Wolves stuff doesn't have sculpted pads, does it? Huh.

Surprised they didn't change the Brazen Minotaurs symbol out for the Minotaurs'.

Howling Griffons hurts a little to lose though, and I'm also a bit surprised at the Black Talons' inclusion. (Also over the likes of the Blood Ravens and Carcharodons, or even the Tome Keepers or Silver Templars.)

i was excited about the blood angel phobos pad, then i realised its actually the smaller right hand pad, not the larger left hand one lol. So no application outside of deathwatch

Could use it for a scout sergeant.

I feel like people will be buying these just for pads. And even though I see a lot of "I won't be buying this or I won't be playing this"

many people will and GW will probably under produce, that seems like their newish thing. So it will sell out and be short stocked.

Not exactly. First off, in a box of 5, every Tacticus model has two load out options, as does the Spectrus while the Gravis has three. And with the amount of heads and pads ON TOP of dual and tripple build models, I'd say calling these monopose kinda misses the mark, but your post DID point something out to me:

If these are repackaged in boxes of five, it's likely that each kit will include the same number of options, but it will just be missing the five bodies to make al but one of the Gravis load-out options. So by waiting and buying two boxes of five INSTEAD of buying the big box, you probably end up with twice as many bits.

Of course, all of this is speculation anyways- we don't know if the Kill Team kit will be limited to five models (though I'd say its a good bet) or if the eventual 40k repackaged box will be limited to five models, but I'd say that's an even better bet.

Which is not to say I don't agree with your overall point about all of the stuff being as expensive as it is- obviously I do. But just like the firstborn DW Kit was the most versatile on the market, this box will be wicked versatile compared to any other KT/ 10th ed 40k box. Also, the team that it allows you to build could end up being even more versatile once it gets 40k rules because you might be able break the 3 Tacticus, 1 Spectrus, 1 Gravis ratio- doubtful, but possible.

Looking at the sprue pictures, it's business as usual. One set makes 5 models, with all possible options. So even if you buy the big box on Saturday, you'll get extra bits, same if you buy a hypothetical future 10-man set, or two 5-man ones.

Another article, covering the terrain itself somewhat.

Even though there’s more xenos detritus in these walls, the rules keep things consistent across both sets. So while the Tomb World uses fancy phasing portals for doors rather than good old Imperial hatches, such esoteric thresholds are still labelled as hatchways, and operatives still perform the Operate Hatch action to use them. Similarly, breachable terrain remains – and it’s just as fun to pop out the segments as it ever was.

Anyone know what the AUD price is likely to be? I'm guessing ~$330-350 but I'm unsure

If my math is right, it would be around $420 AUD.  That would be GW webstore price.

If 155 GBP is accurate and applying the usual conversion by taking the closest stocked item, in this case the Coronus Grav Carrier at 153.50, it'll be €185, $235 US, $290 CAD, $330 AU, $381 NZ, plus a lil bit on top to account for that missing 1.50GBP.

It does, there's a couple sculpted pass for the sergeant in the Blood Claw, Greyhunters, and Terminator box. You can choose between Ragnar's company or Logan's company. Headtakers don't have any sculpted pads because their shoulder pads are covered in pelts. And the Primaris Space Wolves sprue with sculpted Ragnar pelts is still being sold.

Some Wolfy folks liked to be able to source the Deathwatch pad so they could have a right facing wolf on the right pad. But I think we can all agree that's an extreme edge case.

From Chapter Master Valrak's stream, a look at the sprues for the Necrons. The Macrocytes and Tomb Crawlers have a joined sprue so they'll probably always be boxed together even when they come to 40k, might still be two distinct units though? There's a bunch of Guass Flayer looking weapons on the Tomb Crawler side of the sprue so maybe another weapon load out for them we haven't seen. On the Macrocyte side it doesn't look like any options for them unless some of those Guass Flayers at to kit the Macrocytes out with all Guass Weapons but then it still seems like an odd number of them.

Also for the Tomb Crawlers there's only one of the orb type guns but two of the heavy Guass weapons which makes we think they'll come as squads of two and one can be upgraded.

Geomancer is, unsurprisingly, on a completely separate sprue.

Edit: I was confused by the number of smaller guns because I thought they were all Guass but it actually looks like it's 5 Guass and 5 Tesla so they'll be a couple of options for Macrocytes which is nice. Turns out there's even a picture of a Macrocyte with a Tesla weapon in one of the recent articles.

Big question for me is, are we going to see the Teams and rules available separately... and not just on Ebay lol.

Seeing as Raveners and Servitors share the release window with tomb world, I would not be surprised to see the tomb world contents pared out with the release of the next box.
