It'll be interesting to see how they follow up that initial box with other teams.

Not many factions have real reason to go poking around inside an actively waking Tomb World.

So, a recent 40k Narrative Campaign I ran ended with a battle in a Necron Tomb complex in a pocket dimension; the portal to this was opened from a Forge World invaded by Necrons and Leagues of Votann (plus their allies).

At the end of the campaign, there were Imperial forces, Votann, Tau (mercenaries for the Votann) and Tyranids (slaves of the Necrons) fighting in the Tomb complex. The portal to this pocket dimension is still open, narratively speaking, so any of those forces can still access it.

I plan to follow it up using the Servitor Kill Team from the last set for some solo games - the Ad Mech secretly sending teams to investigate the Tomb complex.

Basically, tl;dr version - there are plenty of reasons for any faction to explore a Necron Tomb World, just think of a narrative thread and you're away

The fact that the box comes with extra necron models to serve as NPOs has me quite excited about the future narrative/solo releases for this season. The additional maps/scenarios for volkus were super fun. Hopefully the learn the lessons of the Gallowdark season and each future box is comprised of the teams and terrain gubbins rather than another whole set of the terrain.

Now that we know where this season is headed, what does everyone think of this future release? And what do we think will be the unannounced second set between them?

While neither the Raptors nor Sororitas appeal to me (though I'm happy for people who wanted these), I'm super excited for the mode of play where there are two boards, one representing what's beneath the other. As, for me, the narrative possibilities of Kill Team (especially in solo/co-op play) are what interests me most about the game, I think there's a lot of fun to potentially be had from these types of games

As for the middle box, there's rumours it's either Grey Knights or Inquisition Stormtroopers. I'd be interested to see if it's the latter - the 3rd Ed Stormtroopers were my absolute favourite sculpts back in the day, if they were to get an update I'd be fairly happy  But I'm not sure they're what the game needs, as we all ready have Kasrkin and Aquilons in the game.

I'm hoping that the Necron terrain will either be repeated in the second set, or will get a seperate release - two will make a great Boarding Actions set  Having a couple will also mean I can run a day of themed Kill Team games at my local gaming group - I already have a few ideas around that!

In all, I'm happy about these announcements, and very optimistic about Kill Team's future as a game system

My sincere hope is that the middle set includes a Grey Knight team, and I hope both the second and third sets add to the Tomb World terrain- though I know this will also increase the cost of the boxes.

This would mean that the every release in the season would add another unit for the Chambers Militant of the  Inquisition. With a bit of luck, these units will receive 40k Datacards for both their principle faction AND their Ordo, allowing additional Requisitioned units. If the Sanctifiers can have two datacards, I think it's possible for these teams as well. Sisters and GK only have one requisitioned infantry unit each, while the Deathwatch have several. Although this would add an additional unit to the Deathwatch as well as the factions that are currently behind the eight ball, it would still be nice for Sisters and GK  to each have an additional option. The GK in particular need a way to get power armoured troops into their Ordo's Requisitioned troops option; Terminators are great, but they  are a fairly blunt instrument; having access to a power armoured unit would lend them some diversity.

I love that they're putting out another 2D map layout, I love gallowdark/ITD rules but the map layouts are pretty bad, I think the tombworld set will fix a lot of those issues (the breakable walls go a LONG way in making that happen already). I hope that the terrain gets its own killzone release for boarding actions, but that the rest of the boxes DONT include it...4 sets of the same terrain in a season was a huge turn-off in the second season for me.
I'm a big fan of the NPO/AI rules they've put out so far, adding "boss" battles to it is icing on the cake. Echoing others, the Above/Below layout sounds awesome and I love the idea of running a narrative teams event with an "above ground" team and a "below ground" team playing simultaneously and affecting the battlefield of the other...

Not to sure what the middle box will be, people have been clamoring for GK vs Demons for ages now, and while I don't really think either "fits" with KT their fans have been so hungry for so long I'd be fine with them getting a solid meal out of it.

Yeah, I can see that.

A Killzone box, or Boarding Action box is fine... My only issue with that is that once those are out, development stops. With the Arks of Omen stuff, each set came with some stuff that was new- groovy little servitor vehicles, strategic sensor and war room pieces, etc. If they can give us that with a Necron theme without including it in the vs. boxes, I'd be cool with that.

My fear with standalone terrain boxes is that they're nothing but carbon copies of the stuff that's available in the DW v. Crons box... and possibly not even the pieces of scatter terrain that the versus box appears to include.
