The Pounder
@Vairocanum, thank you! I love these heads from Archie’s Forge they really sum up what I’m trying to achieve. Cheers @kabaakaba! Really is a great sculpt. Personally I prefer helmeted heads (as I suck at painting faces!!) Thanks @space wolf! I saw the new Vallejo metallic paints and decided to do something different to what I’ve done previously. I’m really happy I did and that you guys like the work so far! Next up the 3rd Company Ancient! I love me a flag!! space wolf, Bonehead, kabaakaba and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386548-the-pounder%E2%80%99s-40k-and-hh-project-log/page/3/#findComment-6144855 Share on other sites
The Pounder
Finally made some progress on my Ultramarines! This time I’ve added an Ancient (will probably never see the table but I think it’s cool!) I got the banner and head from Archie’s Forge. Absolutely amazing site! Vairocanum
What a gorgeous mini! Will definitely have to check out Archie's Forge as the standard looks like it could be official GW! The Pounder
Thanks @space wolf! I’ll keep them coming!! Cheers @Vairocanum! They have loads of stuff, not just Ultramarines bitz can’t say enough good things about them! Well, I’ve finished Lord Macragge himself, Marneus Calgar! I love this new sculpt. It was a joy to build and paint. I have put a little extra effort into this one as he’ll be leading the force until I get Guilliman. My face painting skills suck but I’m really pleased with the boat on this guy! The Pounder
Well I was off on a bit of a tangent this weekend. Had a little time so I decided (after watching the Hoth scene from Empire Strikes Back) to reboot my Krieg collection! This time they’ll be in the snow! Still dug in but colder. Death Korps of Krieg Death Korps of Krieg Death Korps of Krieg I’ve ordered a Combat Patrol and some heads so I’ll post more pics once they arrive! Any suggestions on the colour scheme please go ahead and let me know. kabaakaba
Same here. Just like that. Little snow on base and scheme shine pretty much. The Pounder
Thanks guys! I did tinker with the idea of white great coat or amour plates but decided it would too much of a ball ache! In the end I decided to go with white cuffs and trousers. I like the armour to match my tanks so they’ll be grey. I’m thinking of camouflage on the tanks like this: Snow camouflage Might go with this but I’m wondering if it’ll be too complicated by the time I’ve weathered them? Bonehead
I think the only problem with it being too complex is whether or not you can be bothered to do it! A three-colour scheme like that, with pretty high contrast, ought to still show up reasonably well under even heavy weathering. As for how well the model reads, well I always feel that tanks kind of skip the rules that apply to other models. It being somewhat visually messy is kind of the point with camouflage, after all. You can break up the camouflage with storage and such, crew members in hatches etc. If it was me, and it was when I did mine, I'd go for the camo scheme. The Pounder
Thanks @Bonehead! I think I’m gonna bite the bullet and try a camouflage scheme. I’ve never done it before so will be a new challenge. Brother Christopher
The test model looks ace. And rebooting a DKK can't be a bad idea. I think that GW nailed it when they released them in plastic. Definitely give a camo-scheme a go. It might be more labour-intensive but I think it'll be worth it. I also agree with @Bonehead's remarks. The Pounder
Thanks @Brother Christopher! Yeah, I’m chomping at the bit to get going on my beloved Krieg again. Definitely going to do the camo scheme this time. I just have to wait for my order to arrive! kabaakaba
I'm a bit curious what's your plan for your krieg? 2000 army? Or just collection? The Pounder
A bit of both really. My aim is to start collecting up to 2k then build up options after. Made a list that I’m working to so hopefully that’ll keep things structured for now! I really want this to be the best painted force I’ve ever had. So with that in mind, I’ll try to make a real effort to improve my basing and overall neatness. kabaakaba
Imma currently planning this year order(I'm buying minis once a year) and closely looking on krieg to add to my cadians The Pounder 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386548-the-pounder%E2%80%99s-40k-and-hh-project-log/page/3/#findComment-6155336 Share on other sites
The Pounder
One order a year?? I wish I had your restraint! I’ve been collecting them on and off since Imperial Armour 5 Siege of Vraks! It’s a big investment in time and money but if you already have Cadians you’ll be used to that anyway. I’d say go for it! They’re very rewarding to paint. I haven’t played since 9th Edition but I’m hoping to get back onboard for 11th. I recently bought the Krieg Combat Patrol and I have to say it’s a good mix of units. Maybe that would be a good place to start? Good luck. kabaakaba
Thanks, I'm a bit confused with current purchase. First is 3k pts for my nids. And I need ~1500 for IG army. The Pounder
The new plastic kits are great, much easier to work on than the old resin ones! That said I’m not a huge fan of the new rebreathers (it’s the bar going up the middle) but they’re still pretty good. I found a couple of Leman Russ chassis in my bitz cupboard so decided to try my hand at my vehicle colour scheme. Below are the 2 options: Chassis 1 Chassis 2 I’d really appreciate you guy’s suggestions and recommendations to improve them and also if you could vote on your favourite one that would be an amazing help. Heraclite
Both look good but I prefer the grey one I think it gives a better WWI vibe, in keeping with the krieg theme, even though I know they did use camo schemes on WWI tanks Firedrake Cordova and The Pounder 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386548-the-pounder%E2%80%99s-40k-and-hh-project-log/page/3/#findComment-6155844 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
Both look great - the weathering's really nice. Whilst I actually prefer the top one, I'm inclined to agree with @Heraclite in that the bottom one will probably match the infantry better.
