Tbf 40k Ultramarines have always felt pretty Vanilla Ice Cream (with a glass of tap water) more than Greco-Roman to me, like how 40k Space Wolves have always been Wolfy McWolf more than Space Viking - even though a lot of people (understandably) wished they'd take more from the Heresy depictions. Orange Knight
I don't know. I think Marines from the same chapter that are political leaders who rule over worlds, and also fill the role of "high born" diplomats is a very cool niche in the setting. Subtleknife
Love the model. However, as an Ultramarine fan boy, I kind of feel we have enough characters, I would prefer a unit at this point, like a primaris version of the invictarus suzerain squad, or a fulmentarus terminator squad. Hell a decent upgrade sprue would be welcome over another character imo (Sicarius being an exception for me). Lord Marshal
WarCom official reveal. Also has a helmet option. Releases "later this year" alongside his novel, so probably not for the Black Library Celebration. darkhorse0607
I dunno, like I said a few days ago its a good model imo and I'll get it at the very least for kitbashing potential for other members of the chapter I am holding out hope for the novel because I wasn't super keen on them doing the same thing (replacing an old character with a new Primaris one and essentially focusing on them instead of the legacy characters) with Lazerus and the 5th company until I read his book and it won me over That being said, and this is semi unrelated, but people know just because things are painted as Ultramarines they aren't Ultramarines models right? Not on here, but everywhere else I have seen this model (YouTube, IG, Reddit) its been "UGH ANOTHER ULTRAMARINE" We havent gotten a character since Ventris, we lost Sicarius and Telion, the only Cassius model is in the Deathwatch box and Agemman is a generic launch box hero. At this point if we are talking about named heroes, including this fellow, we have 4 (not counting guilliman) the same amount as the Blood Angels and Dark Angels (not counting the Lion and the Sanguinor). Give my guys a break Thank you for coming to my rant Dalmyth, roryokane, Casual Heresy and 2 others 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386569-captain-ferren-areios/page/3/#findComment-6129764 Share on other sites

Marshal Reinhard
think this is perhaps the most understated captain model to date? No cape, and the helms has no laurels nor a top plume. The UM heraldry makes a captains helm indistinguishable from a sergeant's helm if it lacks either. The greaves and gauntlets are pretty standard intercessor too. if not for the "captains rope" I'd have guessed this was a lieutenant model DemonGSides and SvenIronhand 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386569-captain-ferren-areios/page/3/#findComment-6129783 Share on other sites

It's not an entirely new thing, but it has been a tad more frequent since 8th edition, though there are seemingly just as many exceptions that omit it like Gravis and Terminator variants or named characters which may omit it or use a chain, BT and SW in general omit them for either Tabards, pelts, and/or chains as alternatives. This bloke doesn't even want be one, by some din of choice? Agree on the UM not feeling like UM - I do sympathise there, it's been a long running joke that the only ultramarines (until Know No Fear) that people wrote about were the ones who hated being ultramarines. This guy then follows in the same vein as Ventris, Titus, Sicarius, Thiel (etc etc) all Ultramarines who dont act like it, and go against orders and the codex, and generally buck the system. Ultramarines have typically been represented in lore by characters who dont want to be ultramarines, and tied up the dogmatic adherence to the codex - Guilliman tore up the codex when he came out of stasis - even he didnt want to be a pre-rift ultramarine. Which is kind of sad, as they were fun, perfect posterboys, but just other blokes now. I felt similar when GW dropped the subtle hints of BA being vampires, just wanting to drink blood, and made them full on wavy haired retractable teeth goons. On the other hand, the 'I dont want to be part of this Chapter/Legion' is explored incredibly in Scars, by Wraight, with the Khan who wanted to be in the Sons of Horus instead of the feral Scars. I presume this won't be as well written, but one can hope. Orange Knight
I'm going to make an educated guess and say that this guys will actually have unique rules, and the only reason I say this is because he has unique wargear. Now I could be wrong, and it's possible that a Thunder Hammer will be another weapon option for Primaris Captains going forward, but I doubt it seeing as the kit was so recently updated... Then there’s a short story featuring him where he goes to find Epathus’ tomb on Macragge and runs into a big named character who sort of sets him straight. So that’s the official in-lore explanation. As to why GW chose that company for him to take over, god only knows. GW gonna GW. There was a vacancy and they didn’t want to do a reshuffle? :p Plus that short story - Solemnity - is a lovely little bit of character development for both Areios and the big named character. I like the mini - he’ll look great with the appropriate firstborn bits (backpack and helmet) to adorn his artificer Mk VIII plate. ;) What really irks me is they’ve stopped putting the current Captains of the Ultramarines in the codices like they used to. Hopefully they’ll do it next time round.
