I want to add that painting red was a nightmare back in 2nd edition. Today it's a lot more beginner friendly with contrast paints and reds that actually cover over anything but white.

Multi part plastic warboss would be nice. I'd like however to see big boss level characters. Propensity for a million captains/ warbosses running around in 10th is really weird. I do it because "necessity" but it feels off.

That said, it'll be interesting to see what orks come in there. Rumours of stormboyz and meganobz which doesn't fill me full of excitement.

As for the red boyz, I started with 2nd Ed so invariably I'll end up getting the box.

When GW releases a Dark Eldar versus Black Templars starter set - a.k.a. 3rd edition nostalgia bait - I will officially feel OldTM

They owe the Blood Angels the 11th edition box the way they shafted them on their refresh.  :ermm:

It won't make up for the disappointment of the refresh. My only hope now is some cool BA Terminators in a Space Hulk refresh.

I have a theory - it we were indeed the poster boys, I’d also think we might see:

- corbulo + “blood angel intercessors” or similar next edition.

With the bits from the upgrade being compatible for them and giving us the build options for death company intercessors or just blinged up intercessors. It would be a neat parallel to the old blood angel tactical

or even older blood angel space marine models. And if we see an actual new standard intercessor kit it could make even more sense

If it is BA, and the final few Firstborn kits get updated, it would be cool to see the BA helmet colours in the cover art and paint jobs. Red Tactical/Intercessors, blue Devastators, gold Vanguard Veterans (or yellow on veteran Assault, GW does as it wants). Chaplain with jump pack comes along for the ride with the Vanguard.

100% - the Dark Eldar were my first army, and I vividly remember that starting box, the rulebook and the bare bones codices with their cool black and white illustrations.

I am sure that this is just my nostalgia talking, but 40k has lost a lot of its character and attitude since then.

The flavour definitely has lessened. It's not nostalgia. I think also that 40k lacks "new" and interesting. Most "new" minis now are simply remade versions of old. After 3/4/5 iterations of the same minis, it's become quite stale creatively I think.

The blank slate of AoS gives the designers the freedom to do the random wonders they have done. That isn't to say that new minis aren't great but they're still a bit meh.

The fact that the primarchs are at the centre of new fluff developments sadly reveals a bit of desperation of where to go next.

I hope Wade sorts it out.

Blood Angels will definitely look a lot nicer than the Ultras, but it also doesn't matter terribly much.

Is there more info about the box contents and can someone summarise it in writing? I know Valrak's rumours tend to be pretty damn solid, but if at all possible I'd rather not listen half an hour of him being stupidly overexcited like a small child or an American.

Half an hour? Don't tell chat this, they only think I work 7 minutes a day!

They aren't all bad.

Dante, the Sanguinary Priest, Mephiston and the BA Captain are all brilliant in my eyes. Lemartes looks good too, but I don't like Astorath as much.

Old geezer alert. I started out my 40k journey with the 2nd ed starter set, it's been a long *cough*30+*cough* years!

Ahoy. Same with me. Although my 1st big set was the 3rd edition starter. I was dabbling with models before that, but most were gifts from my parents here and there.

Dante wasn't part of this refresh, technically an earlier update. The Sanguinary priest is missing his jet pack, the iconic part of our faction. Same for the captain.  Lemartes is wolverine. Astorath is at least a faithful update.

Even the good things still were perplexing; I agree that the SP and the Cap are both solid sculpts, but we are the legit jump pack faction of space Marines and two of our character units didn't include a jump pack. Huge flavor fail.   And that's not even discussing the gameplay changes; BA cap being it's own datasheet is mind boggling and the SP went from being played to having 0 table presence.

It was a bad refresh. It's okay to admit that, especially as GW seems to have given a :cuss: with the SW so maybe it means they internalized the complaints with the BA, at least a little.

With the BA captain being a separate datasheet, they should have given him a 2+ save and increased the price by 10 points to at least differentiate from the Codex version and reflect the sculpted artificer armour.

This is a great idea. His armour is more sculpted and can be painted gold which fits the artificer theme.

This is exactly the kind of variations I'd love to see from chapter to chapter, although to do it well the BA shouldn't have access to the generic Captain as this would be their bespoke version.

But to do this properly GW needs to have updated all the chapters simultaneously, but that doesn't fit their idea for-profit release schedule....
