Kinda boring across the board, at least for me. The EC one was expected, but I can find Fulgrim locally for like $120 US so idk if it's even that great of a savings if you want to start that army.

The Votaan one is the one I'm considering and I don't own any of them. I just love the artillery piece so much.

Krieg one is a maybe but I just picked up 4x of the KT box in a scratch and dent sale, so I have very little use of another 20 Krieg bodies. But command squads are impossible to find and similar to the LoV one, I enjoy the artillery models.

Probably another year without a purchase. Definitely feels like a weird year of boxes. Even the Space Marine one has me scratching my head like who wants this.

I actually quite like these this year, aside from the Nids one (Would've been nice to see a pair of Carnifexes in there). They're all kits you'd like to have in the army and if you were starting out I can't really see why any of them would be a bad choice necessarily. Combine these with a Combat Patrol box and you've probably got a tidy 1250 point force, aside from the Krieg one.

Gotta love WarCom's predictable inattention to detail...

Dead center of the lineup for the Space Marine box (their most popular faction) is the MPK Lieutenant model, first introduced in Strike Force Agastus.

Yet despite this prominent placement, he manages to go completely unmentioned.

Replace the Neruotryant and Screamer Killer (they're joined at the hip via sprue) with a pair of carnifexs and a Hive tyrant and I might have bought this. Technically I already have a tyrant but as my magnetising project went awry, I could have used it as a Swarmlord. As it stands though, nothing is jumping at me this year (ironic as I do have the money to actually buy it as well right now)

In principle these all seem decent, but none of them is quite... precise enough to move me. The Votann one is closest to relevant for my collection, but I'm still not sold on the mole mortars and not that enthused to push beyond my existing 15 Beserks.

Boxes this size always take me like a full year to get through anyway and I don't have any army below a comfy 2k right now so I've been just adding the odd thing of interest here and there ever since the last Votann big box.

Anyway... hoping these are a slam dunk for some of ye Frater.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

Even warcom has had enough of regular marines and their twelvety-billion lieutenants.

I quite like the Nids one. The only army I collect here is CSM, and I don't need another Lord Discordant so that box is kind of null and void for me. I don't really like Nids but a Kaiju box just brings a smile to my face. I do think a couple of carnifexes would of rounded this box off nicely. Kinda surprised we didn't get carnifexes, it's an old kit and I could definitely see an 11th edition replacement

I myself am a Primaris Lieutenant and my people have been marginalized for far too long.

Yeah, it's so close to being an instant pickup box. Suppose they're trying to clear the backlog of models no one is buying. Shame really as a box of big nids is a really cool idea!

The EC battleforce plus a combat patrol gets you to 1175 points. However, you wouldn't then want another CP box as that'd give you 18 flawless blades which even for EC is excessive.

However... One army box, one battleforce and one combat patrol plus a single lord exultant gives you a 2k force that's very useable. (1965 so space for an enhancement).

Fulgrim

3 lords exultant

3x5 infractors

3x5 tormentors

2x6 flawless blades

3x6 noise marines

You could run that and it's a solid force.

The Space Marine Battleforce is pretty exceptional for new players. If you grab that, a squad of Intercessors, a HQ and a transport you're on the way to a great army.

Krieg Box is good. It's tempting me - I'm always on the cusp of doing Guard and the Krieg have the best aesthetic.

Emperor's Children and Votann sets are also tempting me, these are other armies I have an interest in.

Nidzilla box is interesting, I don't know enough about the faction to declare it good or bad. I haven't faced them in a while.

As for Chaos Marines - I have many of those models already. That's the army that I could build with the least expense as I have so much of it already on sprues.

Krieg is a maybe, though I might skip this because I'm more interested in the Combat patrol for now, and my Krieg army is going to be a multi-year slow burn of a project. I do love the artillery teams though. Are multiple command teams typical in Guard armies?

The grim state of horde army collecting when the christmas battleforce for Krieg is a mere 445 points.... and not even a good army builder because a second box is going to result in you having too many artillery.

That being said I think it pairs fairly well (albeit artilery heavy) with the launch box which is still readily available. Stick a Leman Russ on top and that's a solid 1000 points.

It's still tempting me because I have a Baneblade and Lord Solar ready to assemble. I'd try to fill the army with 2 Rogal Dorns as well.

But yes, some armies are so expensive now. I have 3k+ points of AdMech and this has been a very pricy project as well.

Just making a few modifications to some existing units I own has cost me triple digits.

Why IS he at the centre?

That set comes with a Multi-Part Captain that looks far better!

I really thought GW was on to something when they increased the points cost of certain infantry units and gave them reinforcement mechanics. You'd get the horde feel without having to put an excessive number of bodies on the board at once, to say nothing of having to pay a premium for it. Then they tossed that out with an edition change.
