CL_Mission
The rules for the new units are now available on the app or in the Faction Pack you can download here on the Warhammer Community site. Points are in the Munitorum Field Manual. What do people make of them? I'm a little disappointed the Macrocytes are stuck with a unit size of 5 and no batteline. I can understand that building a squad of 10 or more might be tough considering they will only be available as part of the kill team for now and even later will be sharing a sprue with the Tomb Crawlers but I was hoping they would be a unit analogous to warriors so if you wanted to field a more Canoptek themed army you could. They've got a couple of buffs they can hand out but their own fire power seems pretty anemic, especially since you're stuck with a small squad size. I'm surprised Tomb Crawlers aren't tougher, they're pretty sturdy looking guys and come on a 50mm base so you'd think they'd be toughness 5. NTaW
This totally slipped under my radar, thanks for pointing out the additions. The Canoptek units are a little bland, but at the same time I appreciate that they don't have auto-include rules since they are currently a release of limited availability. I could see bits of use for either, but neither really fit my style of play. The Geomancer looks interesting, and I'm always happy to have another Cryptek datasheet to add to the list of identities my converted/older models have. Off the top of my head having it attached to my backline Warriors to help hold an objective and prevent reserves from getting in too close wouldn't be a terrible addition, even if it isn't something I typically have problems with. In my last match it would have let me maneuver my long-range weapons into potentially more advantageous positions instead of measuring out 9" each turn to make sure I wasn't getting my backline hit with a Drop Pod of angry Black Templars. Bonzi
The rules for all the units are mostly ok. I like the utility of the Geomancer. I think if he went down 5 or 10 points he would be much more interesting. The Crawlers seem like another side grade of the Canoptek bodyguards we already have. I would have liked to see them be a more interesting inclusion than they are. Again probably 5 or 10 points overcoated. The Macrocytes are a fun utility unit, but at their size and toughness, their cost is absurd. They would be more interesting as Canoptek battle line in a larger squad (the probably should have had the Crawlers rolled into their unit instead of separate). As they are? These guys shouldn't break 50pts. A sneeze will pick them up from the board and their buffs are good but very conditional. If you can get the buffs off, the unit is at risk of immediately getting picked up. I wouldn't bother taking these guys when we have better cheaper options for utility like Tomb Blades, Death Marks, and Flayed Ones. The best part of these units is the hope that they show where Necrons might get future Canoptek units.
