Another unit GW took away from me by chabging their wargear options.

I've built ten with Shotguns (still possible) and made the effort to give each member a little Melter Bomb. That isn't possible anymore and now I have yet another unit which is illegal to play.

I've watched their video and can agree.

Scouts should be a nice annoyance and are worth to take. They made them more expensive for some reason and their slot is quite hard to get but otherwise still worth it.

I mean, would anyone you play with really  kick up a fuss because the models have meltabombs modelled onto them?
Like it sucks if it’s not an option anymore, but I don’t know if the unit is unusable.

unless you are religiously WYSIWYG?

I'm this instance, being the unit can't use Melta bombs, they become the same as grenades and pouches, i.e. decorative, rather than in game functional.

I really don't think this invalidates your ability to use the unit competitively.

You're both right.

Nobody will notice, nobody will complain.

But the problem is that I will notice and they are a constant reminder of what GW did. My Consuls are the ones really suffering thiugh because they all have different load outs in their hands which isn't possible anymore so the Scouts are in fact just a minor inconvenience.

It just adds up.

Here's the unit and those are the bombs.

Such a shame, I was really happy how they turned put. People would also not notice because there are several other layers of things to detect before they get to the bombs.

Nobody  is enforcing WYSIWYG rules to this level.

Of course not, but it is so annoying to put in the effort and then it is all for naught.

And a weird change as well.

I wonder why they felt it was necessary.

I have seen people query loadout at events, so even though I personally don't care there are situations where people do and so there is an element here of the rule change creating unnecessary friction.

I have seen similar comments about people now removing bayonets as they are not as useful in the new rules, which on a personal level upsets me (don't ruin your lovely minis that you spent hours of your life creating, because the sales team in Lenton want you to buy more! )

I feel, high level, fast edition cycles and regular invalidation of unit options is eroding the effort people put into WYSIWYGing their armies. Yes, its no longer a rule, but its been the spirit of 30k from the start. Less people are going to put in the work... and who can blame them?

Exactly. It started in 2ed and now in 3ed I see it sll the time that people stopped putting in the work and who can blame them?

I’ve always felt that as long as a model looks pretty much right, belt kit isn’t really important as long as your list is clear.

I think as long as you’ve got the correct weapons and armour, melts bombs, grenades etc don’t really need to be modelled - is there a set way to model a refractor field for example?
