The 'Crusader Host' 2.0 (and a tyranid)

Varnished my Dark Angel at last. I also wanted to show off the custom bases I got for future crusader host members. The skulls for the world eaters, the dirt and chaos octed stones for the black legion, the steampunk for the iron hands and the grave for the Raven Guard. Each one is supposed to represent the legion thematically as the prior bases have. I dunno what to do for the white scars though. I got a base with crystals and dirt texture that I was thinking of painting to look like Aiur from StarCraft but that's because I can't think how to paint 'space mongolia'.

Pleased to report some progress. I have started on my Khorne Berzerker from the World Eaters. I swapped out the shoulder pad for a mk2 shoulder so I could use a decal instead of the raised emblem.

I started with pro acryll light grey primer, then mephiston red for the base of the armour with runelord brass trim. Then rhinox hide for the pistol holster but the leather strips tabard and the bandolier I wanted to do as black leather so I used Abaddon black. The armour seals are black legion. The chain sword and pistol are Abaddon black with duralumin from Vallejo. While the silver bits of the power pack are gunmetal by Vallejo. Then finally everything was washed with agrax and I reestablished the mephiston red in the middle of the panels. Then duralumin to pick out the rivets.

The skulls are all zandri dust, agrax earthshade and a dry brush of ushabti bone. Really love the khorne base I got. I need to find a way to make the skulls look like they've been hit with blood spatter though. I thought maybe soaking a brush with blood angels red and hitting it with another brush to make droplets fly off?

I've highlighted now with duralumin, evil sunz scarlet. As well as corvus black then mechanicus standard grey highlights, admin grey on the black leather and girthor brown for the browns.

For the base I did another drybrush if ushabti bone and then irinarch skin. I tried a new technique for the blood splatter, soaking a toothbrush with blood angels red thinned down with lahmian medium which I then pulled back and flicked forward to get a natural splatter of droplets on the skull. Then finally I used an old world eaters decal for the legion badge.

I've started on my Space Wolf. The Vylka Fenryka's representative is a bloodclaw in a deliberately reckless assault marine pose. I used pro acryll grey primer with a base coat of Russ grey and a recess shade of agrax then an edge highlight of fenrisian grey.

The armour seals are as always black legion though I still need to add the nuln oil. I used my usual rhinox hide, agrax, girthor highlight.

The pistol is iron warriors with nuln and corvus black for the gun casing and chain sword. The chest Aquilla is retributor armor with agrax while the skull is the same as the fenrisian tokens.

For the bone totems I used zandri, agrax,  and a touch of ushabti. I wanted the fenrisian tokens to look different though so I used pallid wych flesh, space wolves contrast and an edge highlight of ulthuan grey. Finally for the shoulder pauldrons and pack markings on the knee, I'm using aver land sunset which is VERY slowly building up to a decent coverage. The bloodclaws use red and yellow for squad markings so I'm going to use mephiston red after a few more coats of averland.

I'm planning to add another space wolf decals to the grey kneepad as an honour mark for this bloodclaw and maybe some runes on the chain sword. Im deliberately adding every detail I can to make this look as distinct from standard template primaris gear as possible.

My bloodclaw is now mostly finished. I used admin gray for the highlight of the gun casing and chain sword and runelord brass for the extra metallic details. After that I added as many fenrisian touches as  I could putting runes on the sword and kneepad and appropriate pack markings.

For the base I used Vallejo neutral gray, nuln oil and a dry brush of administratum gray with a wash of castellan green for a pop of colour. Xv88 and agrax for the soil and then vallhallan blizzard for the snow to show this is a fenrisian fort! Now just micyro sol and varnish and to attach the head.

I also finished my representatives for the second and eleventh legions.

Ive attached the head (thanks grot) and a second coat of micro sol. Tomorrow matt varnishing and then he's done! I'm really pleased with how well I was able to fit the tactical rock into the ruins base so it looks like a continuous structure.
