You’re kidding. Tell me you’re kidding… I literally built and painted a squad a few months ago… well there’s another reason not to get sucked into buying new rules and codexes.

There’s a Veteran Breacher squad in the legacies that has those options

My main criticism of the Cataphractii is that.. really I didn't have one of the last set? They already had a good plastic kit which is only a few years old.

Meanwhile you have a number of resin kits still waiting for plastic: Recon marines, outrider bikes, speeders etc.

Destroyers, who have simultaneously one of the most bad-ass descriptions in all of 30k/40k lore (nuke grenade launchers, forbidden chem launchers & rad weapons, so awful in aspect that it needs the Primarchs to authorise their use against only the most terrible of foes) - then the models themselves are armed with... pistols!

The designers could absolutely go to town with that description and produce something mind-bendingly awesome. I can't be the only person to think this?

I disagree about how good the existing plastic set is tbh. I never particularly loved it because it was quite a detail downgrade from the resin when it first came out, and I don’t think it’s aged that well. They’ve seemed pretty small and under detailed since the MkVI kit came out. It’s also 10 years old now, it’s no spring chicken.

Agreed. The cataphractii in the Age of Darkness box are smaller than the MKVI marines, which always looked odd.

Oh I hadn't appreciated they were that old.

Although would you still say that they look worse than something like, say the recon marines? Or SoH reavers, by comparison? The former at least I would say are very poor, you still get a lot of people coming out in defence of the existing Cataphractii.

People have also been asking for rescaled terminators since 2nd edition though. Whatever order they do stuff in is never gonna make everyone happy.

I like the look of the old cataphractii but they were old when AoD came out as they were first released in the Betrayal at Calth box (I think). They should have been updated for the AoD release imo as it was strange putting them in the same box as larger power-armoured marines.

I think the new cataphracti look good, but they definitely lost some of the bulky appearance which sucks. One of the best things about the new indomitus kit is it really kept its bulk whilst having the better proportions. Makes it look menacing in a way these just don’t look.

new breachers are fun of course. Not enough to get me back into HH but still cool

Absolutely, I am on the record surely saying this?

Two pistols looks cool, but destroyers are meant to have access to forbidden weapons, so why just more bolt weapons?

They missed a trick: unit-wide disintegrators should have been restricted to Destroyers. Then you can make a destroyer squad from your Heresy box and no need to move them to legends or cram the guns into other units. Saturnine with disintegrators would be classed as “heavy destroyers”.

Destroyers are cool but weird. This version is arguably the one that comes closest to a useful unit on the board, which they’ve never quite been before. I’d definitely like to run some.

I do think they messed up the fluff with Saturnines and all these disintegrators. Linking them to Vulcan just doesn’t work for me. He’s the single Primarch least likely to send his troops into battle armed with weapons that kill their user. Ferrus Manus would have made far more sense and they wouldn’t have had to change anything else. A box set of IH vs IW might have been a bit monochrome though I suppose.

Iron Hands vs Emperor’s Children would have been classic though!

True, or they could have given you some melee weapons instead of all the disintegrators, to make despoilers, and gone with world eaters. Or just gone with death guard. There were a lot of choices available and Sallies was the least logical for Saturnine armour, except perhaps Raven Guard.

This is a conversion I have just finished using the old Cataphractii kit. I think partly because it is quite light on detail, gives a lot of scope for personalising it for whichever Legion. Scale-wise, he still sits big & chunky compared to the marines around him.

I am very curious as to how they're going to cover off the other weapons available to the Terminator kit, whether it'll be a sprue or you'll have to buy yet another different squad (surely not).

And how long until said other options appear.

My biggest issue with the new cataphractii is the fact they have those new-design bolters. I don’t really like them.
Just my opinion, and I totally understand why they did it - once the MkII/MkIII design was released, of course the combi bolters were going to be updated in the same way.
