These are really good, I assume since only two weapon options (neither of which are the default Culverin) that there will be another set of these guys with the remainder. (I think 3.0 dropped the Graviton Imploder? So it would be half weapons each set).

I think the old models, particulary the two hooded ones looked a bit more imposing since you couldn't see the face (or there just wasn't one to see). But I can't deny these are badass.

It's crazy they're announcing the faction's most requested unit on a Monday shortly after a reveal show. You could definitely get a crowd of people to scream for this.

That said I've got mixed feelings about the sculpts here. Presuming they aren't as posable as the resin kits I think it was a mistake not to go with "OVERHAND CANNON SWING" as the default stance. IMO, that's the unit's iconic visual idea and the result is that these look a little too Space Marine, especially with more humanoid heads. Curious to see if we get the "torso head" design later on as an elite model. It'd make sense to make a captain if these are now a unit of 6.

I kind of don't want to complain about the repeated bodies. As a default I just don't think bodies should repeat in the same box without major customization options. It's even less appropriate than usual with AdMech because the faction is so expensive and time-intensive to paint. But also I'd guess that these are probably going to be literally less than half the price of 6 resin bodies. If these are $80 we just don't have to look in that gift horse's mouth unless the melee version is only an upgrade sprue without any cosmetic additions.

I think for me it depends on the sprues.

If this is a three sprue box with two generic body sprues and one sprue with the 12 weapons, that implies to me the other Myrmidons when (if) they come will just replace the weapons sprue, if it's a two sprue box with the two gun options baked in to the sprue it infers we might get some extra body options to mix and match with in the later kits.

Obligatory "why no 40k."

Aside from that, these seem a bit worse than their resin counterparts. The bodies and arms are great, imo, but the shoulderpads look silly - like a bad kitbash, a piece designed for another model awkwardly tacked on - and the heads don't really look right either.

The human head looks as if it was grafted onto a mechanical ogryn body.

These aren't awful at all; but they're not the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm coming at these from a perspective of someone who wasn't too familiar with the old Myrmidons, but rather someone who likes older Ad Mech aesthetics. Compared to the recently revealed 30k Skitarii, these capture that vibe very well. It's also not just a random mess of techno bits, though that is there in force of course.

The armor over the robes gives me the vibes of a cuirass type set-up, meant to deflect shrapnel and harden the 'soft' bits still remaining from blast pressure and what not.

New Myrmidons. WOOO!

I like them apart from the heads and shoulder pads! ALRIGHT!

Every model can have the same gun! YES! YES!

They only get irridation engines and dark lances? What?

There will be new rules for the kit that lost 2 weapon options... Oh no... The monkey paw finger curls...

I get the irridation engine, as irad weapons are really rare in kits.

But Darkfire cannons? You could take them from castellax, or swipe the photon thrusters from Thallax.

Volkite culverins are everywhere.

Conversion beamers for infantry are to my knowledge only in the arch-magos set, although I have plans for a box of Titanicus Acastus.

In closing thoughts, I hope you can model the "hands" open.

I really like these. Very imposing and I don’t mind the disparity between the size of the head and body, to me it reads as normal-sized human heads with massively augmented with exoskeletons, tons of grafted muscles, etc. a functional approach where the head being enlarged wouldn’t serve a purpose.

Another comment. These are plastic so there will be a lot of potential to kitbash these for those who are so inclined. And the plastic should make it easier.

Regarding the poses - the resin models were 3 unique bodies/poses as well, so it’s a net neutral change in that regard.

Going further, it doesn’t feel right to deploy the lack of poses as a criticism for these specific models. The new plastic infantry kits are all pose-limited to some degree. It’s just a recurring issue throughout the entire model range. In that, HH design team are at least being consistent. Sadly…
