Whoosh.

Ultramarines - 5th most popular on reddit
None of the Badab stuff is in the top 12 except for the Sallies

Really Deus? you went to my profile and then through all my posts in this thread to spam disagree with them?

I will now more or less do the very thing I pretty much accused others of: I will assume the thing I do is what most do. Shrug and move on, this not having been enough of a deal to make me react in one way or another. (It really didn't, the string of what i find to be ridicilous overreactions here did)

I'm not overly amused by this. I see what it's going for, kinda. I'm not sure it does a particularly good job... but those people claiming to be offended by this... really?

To me it feels like you have to be someone perpetually looking for something to be offended by from GW if this somehow crosses some line...?

EDIT: Oh, and I wouldn't be so sure most space marine fans today even know what the Badab war is, let alone have it as their one defining thing which is what they really really want. I think claims to the contrary probably lacks any real overview as to the demographics of the entire fandom and is way more of a projection of "what I want" equals "what we want". Don't get me wrong, the Badab war is a popular part of the lore, particularily among older players. But we (I too like it, y'know?) don't define the entire fandom, even when limited to space marines. Edited, rather than double post

The Badab War offers more than a dozen SM chapters to be built and painted. Everyone can pick a favourite chapter with ease so there is choice. Not so with the forced UM release as GW tries to shove smurfs down the customer´s throat.

What even is being offered here, or do we not know? I cannot be bothered with this kind of marketing.

Its (imho) a buildup to the 500 world campaign announced in the last preview show.

Remember how they build up to Arks of Omen with those tarot cards ? this is that, but a different take on it.

So far nothing.

Down the line we don't know.

We don't know yet. If I had to guess it'll be a good handful more videos before it crystallizes whatever they want to actually show.

They are selling new t-shirts and mugs, if not more that will appear.

With GW bowing to pressure and now promising to only release Ultramarine releases, I can only assume we've not seen the whole story yet and all the Ultramarine haters in this thread will get a chance to buy their own shirts and merch in a day or two...

Which would then lead me to think that perhaps this is all then targeted to get the community to "Pick a Side" for stores 500 world games.

Perhaps even having the earlier release of Ultramarine codex or some other prize be at stake similar to the Leviathan and AoS competition.

"Do you stand with Macragge, or do yet more Ultramarine releases leave you feeling Blue? Go to GW stores and fight in their 500 Worlds campaign to decide who wins." etc

Yes they can, but that does not mean everyone have done so. They can also be completely indifferent to the various chapters of the badab war. Its not the holy grail of marine lore that everyone knows and wants the most.

As much as I've harped on UM favoritism over the decade their current line up does not really exceed what others have gotten so far (out of the big... five? So weird to say that)

When's the last time there was anything for Badab? Its at this point a small niche of what forgeworld did before they did, well anything besides the heresy. A small footnote. The other marine conflict from decades ago. The Heresy fills up all off the marine on marine conflict of today.

Badab won’t be touched until they’ve milked the 10k years between HH and 40K.

It makes no sense to go back to a conflict before Cadia’s destruction. No Primaris. No Primarchs. That might be music to the ears of some, but it makes zero commercial sense.

No, no one likes UM.

This is a wild statement. In my 30 years in this hobby I have literally played against hundreds of Ultramarine armies, and there is more than one Ultramarine collector in my local scene, and I see them on tabletops everywhere. The only Marine armies I can confidently say that I've encountered more often are the Space Wolves and Blood Angels.

I completely understand if the Ultras aren't your slice of cake, and their lore and reputation could be irksome, but people worldwide love the blue Marines.

True, maybe the next arc of this series of skits is a counter protest at warhammer world chanting "no more ultramarines" "we hate calgar" "blue is NOT my favourite colour" ringing in a back and forth until they finally get to the point.

Make the protesters all the same people for both protests for added fun, maybe some fake moustaches to make it funnier.

On the topic of the Badab War - it was awesome.

I was there for the original campaign book and - although I don't talk about them much - I collected the Minotaurs back in the day.

I still have a bunch of Minotaur models in my collection including Asterion Moloc, who to this day is one of the coolest and most mysterious Chapter Masters, and I love his Spartan looking model.

But here is the truth of it;

The Ultramarines are not to blame for the relegation of the Badab chapters to the lost pages of history. Badab was dropped so Forgeworld could focus on the Horus Heresy. Say what you want about that, but the Ultramarines are not the main focus of that setting. And believe me - I know.

I have an Ultramarine army for the Horus Heresy, and they have a tiny range of ugly legion-specific models and limited rules. It was my punishment for not doing thorough research when I started painting my Heresy 2.0 starter set...

I mean I'd certainly consider a "Personally, as Alpharius, I'm fine either way" shirt.

So we're going for a thinly veiled "I don't want primaris give me mk7 back" or "roll the clock back to 5th-7th ed", because realistically thats the only thing different here. You can still go use those dozen chapters now in one guise or another, the only thing you'd need to really hammer them home is a range of special characters and rules, which would sort of be like forcing not-blue-marines down customers throats, no?

Given that specific um releases are few and far between, I'm curious as to how they've been forced down customer throats? They may be the box cover boys (because blue is a good beginner colour, with red a runner up if I remember) their rules also only require the base codex unlike the divergent chapters which require an additional purchase. I think most of us have tuned out what's on the box cover making it like white noise (aside from me, as I am a UM player so, I like beating myself up that my figures won't look as nice as the 'eavy metal team work ).

Of course, I'd have more sympathy if the complaint was an over abundance of SM releases and you were chaos/xenos/other Imperium factions.

Yes, the objectively correct takes.

Back on topic, it took me an embarrassingly long time to clock the "Mark, of Calth News" reference.

Regarding the "if you paint it blue, any Space Marine can be an Ultramarine" comment, have anyone seen any photoshops of the BA, BT, DA, or SW unique units in blue with ultras? Or any of their characters?

Thanks for calling them out. They’ve done it to me plenty of times as well and many others.

Back on topic: I am am genuinely excited by what this could be teasing. There are some many red herrings I can’t predict any one thing. And it is nice to see GW not taking itself too seriously following a successful few years.

2026 will be an interesting year.

I adapted a sanguinary priest into a regular apothecary, though it barely took any work as i only shaved the blood drop off the pistol, swapped shoulderpads to blanks, and assembled without chainsword.

Hell, I didn't even paint it blue except for the loincloth. The whole lad is completely white with black and blue transfers.

That's some nice work there, looking at it you'd think it was generic to start with
