Upcoming BL Stuff 2026

Since you absolute anarchists are keeping the dream alive in the other thread, I wanted to update this one with the pre-orders from yesterday. Mostly just to make myself feel better about not having read the books on the other thread and waiting for The Wicked and the Warped this weekend. Also the Helldivers 2 update isn't until Wednesday, so I have time to kill

A strange choice for your continuation of a massively successful fifty-book series and prestige capstone sub-series. But very well. I can wait a little longer to see Roboute 'Thronestealer' Guilliman continue to sit back, fingers steepled, as he assumes direct control of the Imperium.

I cannot possibly communicate how negatively I view how GW has treated BL and how BL has treated us.

 

From the heights it had reached to now? Its really frustrating, and has killed off what little interest I had left.

It never ceases to amaze me how many companies treat existing loyal customers with (pretty much) contempt, while simultaneously always chasing after new customers. It’s so much easier (and cheaper) to retain a loyal customer than win a new customer!

Especially since loyal customers end up doing word of mouth marketing for the company anyway, winning new customers through positive vibes and peer pressure :')

While I understand the sentiment about a loyal fan base I also don't want 40k held hostage to it either. I think it's more about GW squeezing blood from a turnip and milking every last drop of their IP for years on end, meanwhile catering to the interests of top shareholders, bumping executive salaries and hiring kids to do the creative work for less than the rate they could get fipping burgers.

Attracting new customers and concurrently retaining existing customers are not mutually exclusive!

How many more times will they change the author for a Huron Blackheart novel? We went from Sarah Cawkwell to Mark Clapham to Mike Brooks to now Marc Collins. Not that I mind who writes him now, but come on, Huron Blackheart has had it rough with author retention....

 

I expect the NEW NOVEL thread on the News subforum to pop up any minute and result in a half-dozen discussion posts we'll never see as actual activity on this board when the book actually releases, by the way.

Marc Collins is active on here. He's messaged me a few times on different platforms. I think he's a real class act. At a time when fewer BL authors are active on social media I think its a good thing. I like the guy!

At this point, I'll take any cover art that ISN'T "character standing stoically/raging with outstretched weapon, flanked by two companions/cronies". Is it the best cover art of all-time? Not in the slightest, but someone took a risk, and as a result has earned my praise and a brownie point. Solid B level art.

If we're talking about tacky covers and fonts, my High Kahl's Oath LE still makes me think of a can of Irn Bru every time I see it. The worst part is, I'm not sure it was even unintentional on BL's part.

More than that, Marc was “one of us”, an active fan on the forums before getting a BL gig. In particular he was an alumni from the good old days of thebolthole site.
