Rumors 10th Anniversary Intercessor Squad, new options (Helmets, torsos and more)

I'll be as concise as I can be with the rumor itself, but I just got to establish a few things beforehand. 

 

1. This is a throw-away account, I plan on joining Bolter and Chainsword fully at a later time in the near future.

2. I cannot share my sources, it's a very secretive server and they told me I'd be banned if I disclose the name

3. Take everything shared with a massive grain of salt, the server has a 45/65 track record of being correct with rumors, so this could just be rubbish for all I know.

 

The reason I'm sharing this here is because of two reasons, I haven't seen it talked at all and I'm interested in seeing what the wider community thinks about it.

 

Now, onto the rumor: For the ten year anniversary of the introduction of the Primaris space marine, GW will be releasing an updated Intercessor Squad with new options for the helmets, torsos, kneepads and power-packs. (I couldn't include PPs in the image due to not having space, sorry!) 

 

Whether this will be replacing the current Intercessor Squad or if it's just a special limited-time item wasn't made clear, so it's up in the air.

 

Rules will be the same as the current squad, it's purely aesthetics.

 

Personally I have my own theory on this, but I'll go more in depth in the comments.

Nothing surprising here. And information=surprise. Can’t see the picture though.

 

They updated stormcast liberators in a similar timeframe. New intercessors “when not if” is our working assumption. The space marine art and other kits have slowly been back-porting older design elements like Mk VII helms. Everything in this rumour has already been covered in speculation threads in this forum. 
 

Unless that picture is of a knee pad with no flange then not sure what we are reacting to?

The initial Primaris Intercessors multi-part plastic kit was first released on August 12, 2017

I expect the Intercessors are gonna get an updated kit at some point, but I doubt it's being saved for the 10th Anniversary of Primaris.

 

If anything I'm expecting it to be one of the things bringing in 11th Ed.

If this is all true it would be a big disappointment for people hoping GW release a "Tactical Intercessor" kit which brings in some of the options available to Tactical Marines.

TBF, updating the Intercessor Kit to include more Firstborn/Tactical Marine options while not actually changing the stats is a very GW thing to do.

We've always been able to customise the kit if we wanted to, visually. I was under the impression people actually wanted a Plasma gun and missile launcher as upgrades for a few Marines in the squad lol

I, too, find it utterly unbelievable that it's already been 10 years.  The rest of the rumour, I have no reason to doubt.  But has it been 10 years already?  Unbelievable.

No big suprise. They've refined the Primaris aesthetic over the years, so an update of the initial core troops was a given. The original kits were a bit bland.

I do despair to paint more squads of footsloggers though.

The rumour might be more believable if it said GW were going to pull some move like introduce a new 36mm base size for intercessors while they were at it. That would force a few purchases!

I believe we're some 20 months out still?

 

Not that an actual release has to follow the 10 year anniversary date exactly or at all... in fact has a model ever? We've had anniversary models and such for game editions or Warhammer or 40k itself, but I can't really recall a situation of "It's the X anniversary of this kit, thus we're releasing a new version now".

 

Regardless, the current intercessor kit poorly fits the current game rules. A lot of space devoted to what kind of bolt rifle you're equipping the squad with, which is no longer even relevant. Historically, the Tactical squad kit (among others) was refreshed fairly frequently so its pretty much a no brainer that the intercessor kit will be as well.

What I could see GW doing is giving us new Tactical Intercessor monopose figures in 11th and then dropping the multipart kit as an anniversary release (if rumours like this are to be believed).

 

I could certainly see GW doing that for a laugh.

I'm sure a few people like wasting their time with 1 of weapons in squads but the GL is enough at this point with how SM are played.

New Intercessors is so inevitable that people have been talking about it for years already - the Stormcast Liberators getting re-done in Skaventide last year was the thing that sealed it because that was the "proof" that GW was prepared to fully replace a core unit for the system's biggest faction despite them only having been introduced 3 editions ago.

 

So the only way this would be surprising is if it genuinely is a 10th Anniversary kit and comes out in 2027, rather than in 2026 alongside 11th Edition.

Here's the thing though, 2027 is also 40k's 40th anniversary, so Intercessors 2.0 or not they're probably saving something for that particular date. I could very much see them dropping these alongside the rumoured Pedro Kantor, all in Crimson Fists colours.

Suppose it depends if they are aiming for the actual anniversary period (i.e. October 2027) so they can make Warhammer Day about it, or whether they call the entire year of 2027 as the anniversary period. In the case of the former, I just can't see them sitting on an upgraded core unit for a year after the Codex comes out.

 

I think a special model feels more likely - Primaris version of the 25th Anniversary model (based on the Rogue Trader cover) would be in line with similar recent nostalgia-baiting.

I think this its not a new rumor itself, i remember Valrak talking about a squad with previus mks elements months ago.

Doubtful, even grey hunters kept the trims, with blood claws being given a specific reason for not having them.

 

I'd be up for *some* models losing the trims and *some* mk6 and mk7 helms though. I'd hate to lose the mkX helms personally though as I love the design (updated mk4 basically)

They've got to do it, the rims are so unnecessary.  Blood claws are the way ahead.

 

It doesn't have to be a pure Mk7 helmet, the MKX helm with the MK7 looking faceplate is also acceptable.

Plasma, flamer, missile launcher

Just need to buy 3 different boxes + plus "tactical primarinades"

As I say, I'd be fine with some losing the rims and some having the mk7 style helm like the wolf kits got :) Similarly, i like the gorget (mk4 and mk8 were my favourite old marks) so would be sad to see that go too (blood claws dont have it)

I just actually like the mkX faceplate and actually like the rims so would be sad to see them go completely. The fact they remained on 2/3 non-terminator wolf kits suggests to me that they'll stay at least partially. 

 

But yeah, totally up for mixing in more new-old designs too.
