I'm excited. I don't know 100% what this following year is going to hold for me both in life and in the hobby, but I have some clear goals and good things - God Willing - happening.

Going into this challenge front and centre for me is the starting of a new Black Templar's army, that I am planning to tie into the upcoming 11th edition release in 2026 (whatever may unfold in the game thereupon!).

Prior to the start of this challenge I painted a Black Templar's Redemptor Dreadnaught and a Black Templar's Primaris Lieutenant. For now I am working on the Sword Bretheren and Castellan unit, which I am aiming to complete and score on my bingo card by the end of the January month! Pics coming soon!

My long term strategy for this challenge will be to purchase and paint the key Black Templar Units that I don't foresee being in the 11th edition box set (whenever that will be released!), then hoping to leverage the 11th edition box sex contents to pad it out into a semi decent list that I can use to play games and earn more bingo points that way towards the end of the year.

But... you know what they say about battle plans and contact with the enemy?

Let's see how it goes!

The aforementioned dreadnaught!

In the week that's passed since my last update, I feel like I've done a lot of painting around my commitments, but when I look at the update oic it doesn't feel that way! IMG_6722.thumb.JPG.0d98aff7c9de99630620c227e40e80e9.JPG

I have been batching five though, so across the five it's decent progress. I also spent most of this evening's painting time tidying up mistakes, as I am now moving onto the major washes step next!

Looking Good

Its always the mid-point of batch painting that is the hardest bit motivationally. Usually about the point where I'm starting final Layers and Highlights, I stop batching switch to completing one model at a time.

For me, it really curbs the motivational hump.

  • 2 weeks later...

Half way through the month now and I am pleased with how these are coming along. I think it will be realistic to meet my goal of finishing a unit by the end of the month!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate that! Cloaks is something I've always "stumbled through" when painting and this is only the second time I've given glazing for cloaks a serious go.

Today I finished the cloaks on the rest of them and I am happy with how they have come out too.

45 mins a cloak though... I'm going to be selective when painting the rest of this army which units I give that treatment to!

They're done! A week to spare before the cut off, but they took me 4 weeks so I need to factor that in for feb!

When is a model really done? I could have kept going but I had to call them done at some point as I have to be realostoc about achieving an army this year...!

These are looking great, very well done! I know what you mean about a model never really being done, it always feels like there's something more to do.

Thanks! Yeah 100%!

I took some better photographs today...!
