I hope they stay, always have to turn to those pages and chuckle when I get book 7 out. The mistake was already made, might as well keep it for the laughs.

Limited edition run of 500 framed prints with certificate of authenticity and purity seal. Absolute money spinner.

I don’t own any, but have been happy with the pdf scans. Not saying I wouldn’t love to own the physical copies, but for now the internet provides a fine solution. Lots of lore and read well enough on my tablet. Except for the double map pages of course.

So its not just the legions but related campaigns...

If they plan to drip feed us all the BB Lore... that is absolutely fantastic and a very smart move.

More Thramas today, with more Night Lords.

Soon we’ll be moving on to other Legions and battles from the expansive Age of Darkness, but before we bid adieu to the Nostramans for a while, there’s one more extract from their infamous campaign to catch up on next week – a tally of the worlds along the Eastern Fringe that felt their wrath. We’ll see you then!

In the first one, the plan/map of Choral City in Istvan III was in fact, parts of Madrid and Barcelona. So,Istvaan III was Spain

Always love reading about the IXth but that seemed a bit thin? I don't know, I unfortunately wasn't into Horus Heresy during the original run of the Black Books, so I don't know what they're meant to be like. I was expecting way more iconography guides, more miniature showcase, more maps, more artwork. Don't get me wrong this is awesome and I'm very grateful it's free.

All of those were very limited, especially miniature showcases - it was a lot more heavily photoshopped diorama shots than anything. Most of them were very much walls of text, occasionally broken up by a map or colour plate.

That's fair. I actually really like those photoshopped images with muzzle flash and a sense of movement added in big nostalgia from like 4th ed that used to do that a lot too. For example there's a great Land Speeder image in the 4th or 5th edition codex that does it.

Malevolence is one of the few Black Books I missed so I'm very glad to see this one.

Edit: Finally had a chance to actually give it a read and I'm pretty diappointed. It looks like they've scanned it in as two page spreads instead of single page like the previous one I downloaded making it harder to read and requiring a lot of zooming which is making it so fuzzy it's difficult to read.

Think part of that is book 8 and 9 (blood angels, white scars and dark angels) came out after Alan Bligh's death. Whilst he wasn't the only contributor, he was one of the main pillars of the project and a shake up like that tends to have a big impact on the rest of the team. Book 8 and 9 were a lot smaller than the earlier ones, like 25/30% less. Personally I also think the writing quality went down a bit.

There was a major shift in quality of both rules and lore from this point on when it came to the black books. Actually, in pretty sure Bligh had some input on the Prospero book and that, IMO, was what killed HHv1. Thousand Sons, Space Wolves and Custodes essentially broke the game irreparably.

It’s really nice to see this again, brings back some great memories of playing the game and the amount of world building FW really put into it. Not sure if it can be called nostalgia since it was only what? 10 years ago? But it was so much fun.

Not quite the Black Books, but they're running a series of articles for Dark Mechanicum colour plates now.

Loving the stylized icons of the big four.
