The youtube podcasters seem to be poo-pooing them pretty hard. I dont think the Starfang is bad especially within the corsairs detachments. Weapons and speed are decent and the stealth bonus thing is a nice perk. As Kar says. the grenade launcher and disintegrator will be great when it zips behind the enemy front line to pop the little 5 man squads hiding in the backfield softening the way for the frail jump guys. Im planning on running two as individuals.

Surprising as they have given a shooting profile that is distinct and different from the Vyper. If you want horde clearance, take a Vyper with Scatter Laser. If you want tankbusting, take a Vyper with ML and BL. But if you want to pop MEQs, the Starfang is your baby.

Heck I’d argue starfang is a decent anti-horde unit as well.  4-6 shots that won’t be savable for horde models. Hitting on a 3+ most will hit, those that hit will likely wound, and then no saves on those wounds.

edit

i hate how they do preorders. Why were independent stores able to do preorders 10 hours ago, but they still arent available on the GW site?

edit numero dos

got my order confirmation. Looking forward to getting my birthday present like 29 days early.

If my math is right the box is 575 points.

my plan for expansion currently is 3 more starfangs and 4 vypers.

also thinking of a squad of rangers and shroud runners, and fire dragons.

should be about 1500 pts.

seems mostly thematic as well as reasonably well balanced.

I need more Corsairs to run my list. I was thinking the Coterie list with a big block of deep striking Voidscarred with Yriel and a couple smaller 5 mans. It also is a good detachment for Wraithguard. I am thinking a 6 man shroud runner squad to use the very nice strat for them and a pair of warwalkers and star fangs plus several warp spiders, and a jump pack corsairs.

Managed to get a box from Darksphere, which I'm glad as I am quite looking forward to these. I've always liked the Corsairs and grabbed two boxes to run in Kill-team, just before they were removed so they've sat on my shelf for a bit.

I'm planning on basically running Yriel (kitbashed a bit to make my own Prince), Kharseth, 2 Voidreavers (one ranged, one melee), 5 Skyreavers, 10 Voidscarred (with some of the special characters) and the Vyper as my starter army. Then expanding with some more Corsairs of various stripes, Rangers (both foot and bike mounted), more Vypers and transports for the units. Maybe a Fire Prism to tie it all off. The idea being this is the martial 'auxiliary' force of my homebrew craftworld who focus more on aspect warriors and wraithbone constructs than guardians, so this bunch of raiders act as their 'main' force.

Biggest downside, I'm struggling to figure out a paint scheme for them, normally have no issue with Space Marine stuff but I can't figure one out for these.

If you have a homebrew craftworld, I’d use that as a starting point for the color scheme.

Battleforce box can build either starfang or vyper.

I hadn’t thought about it too much before this but I just assumed it would only build the starfang

Got mine this morning, details are very crisp and looking forward to building them (promised myself that I'd finish my 3k SoH list first though).

Looking over the profiles for the skyreavers, the hook isn't shown. Appears in the instructions but there's no profile for it as a weapon in the back of the instructions.

Are they any larger scale than the older kits?

yeah why would we expect GW to provide rules for all the options?

edit

emailed GW about when that statline will be released

Aside from the Vyper which is a little bigger than the old one, the jump dudes are about on par with the foot corsairs. The only other eldar I have are the old Dire Avengers which seem to be about the same scale.

Anyone else notice there was a three week pre-order period? I called my store the weekend before last and they said they had them on their shelf in the back but they could not release them until this past weekend. Plus the individual units are already up for pre-order from a notification I got yesterday. Thats really fast, usually GW waits awhile to try and sell as many big boxes as possible.

I put a single sky reaver dude together just to work on a test scheme. I have decided to go Void Dragons like my old old eldar for was when I used to use Towering Warrior Knights and Tempest grav tanks(I had 3 of the tanks and 2 of the knights, sold them a long time ago too along with the Armorcast Phantom). The model went together very easy and looks good next to other more recent eldar models.

I probably wont even get my eldar done before the edition change but am really digging the advance and charge detachment. Once I get a little more done I probably will pick up the corsair combat patrol. Every model in there is useful, although the reavers will need some conversion work to make them very acrobatic looking corsairs. I have a day off this week so maybe I will clear my desktop back log and get to start on them.

enough in the box to build 12

What was the point of doing that?

The extras seem to be there to provide clear alternatives to mark out a Felarch, but you can still build 5 as 'regulars' without the fancier parts if you want. Kinda similar to the reasoning behind including one of each of the special weapons even though you won't use half of them in each build. My extras are going on some extra kabalites to join a few converted blaster Scourges as my third unit of 5 ; )

The starfang looks like a great unit for it's points, especially in the Corsair detachments: scout, 14/16" move, advance and charge can put it onto whatever objective you like, or fire it out to sticky an objective turn 1. The weapons are great also, not forgetting blast for an average 6shots on a 5 person unit.

Honestly it fits the doctrine I’ve built with my other armies pretty perfectly.

a middle of the road TAC platform. S5 means wounding most infantry on a 4+ or better. Light to heavy vehicles 5+ but AP-3 D2 means if you get that 5+ you have a good chance of the damage sticking, and while 2 damage isn’t high, 5 shots per vehicle is enough to expect 2-4 damage per turn per vehicle.

Yep - just chiming in here to pump starfang stonks. It's on my work bench as I type.

S5

S6 means most infantry on 3+, most vehicles on 5+. Everything else is correct, of course, but also very nice not to be wounding T11-12 on 6s, and I can't wait to drop Kharseth debuff on some plague marines and hit them with a S7 version.

Definitely looking forward to taking mine for a spin soon, but I think it might get even better as a buff piece in 11th where it looks like a) Stealth and Cover will stack and b) objectives will be cover. Cue 10 Corsairs camping an objective while marines hit them on 5s cuz they're all bugged out on space acid.

A few after-action reports from first outing with new detachments and units:

1) +1 damage strat on Kharseth's unit after lighting up with shroudrunners is absolutely amazing for marine duty. Turn 1 I lit up a Rhino with falcon and vyper, and then obliterated like 8 Legionaries with Kharseth's unit and +1CP, and picked up stragglers with stray shots. Proceeded to just make life hell on their flank.

2) Skyreavers are spiffy. They will all die, but they are spiffy. One unit killed a Spawn and capped centre turn 1, giving me some breathing room and tempting enemy hammers on to my guns and laser lances. The other pitched in on the marine murder flank and charged the lone Chaos Lord, doing 2 wounds to him but then only losing 2. He took two more wounds to their blades before killing them, which made it oh-so-simple to Ranger no-scope him before he did anything else.

3) Starfang - who knows? Mine got vindicatored turn 1. Vypers with EML are great little snipers and flankers tho. They both survived, and whittled enemy armour admirably.

4) Yriel and Co. - Also unknown; I pulled them into Strat reserves and they walked on to my home objective to stare down a Daemon Prince turn 3, but 3 Shining Spears rolled back from centre to merk him first.

5) Withdraw and Reinforce seems good, I just never needed it.

It's a good time to be a pirate.

List at 2100 (our standard, for reasons of fun):

Yriel + 10 Voidscarred with all the trimmings

Kharseth + 10 Voidreavers w/ shuriken

Farseer + 10 Storm Guardians (they died pretty early but kinda expected tbh - swapping for Jain Zar and Banshees soon)

2x5 Rangers

2x5 Skyreavers

2x3 Shining Spears

2x1 Vyper BL/EML

1x starfang

1x3 Shroudrunners

2x3 windriders

1x5 Dark Reapers

1x5 Dragons

2x Falcon
