The Centaur and Salamander exist and bringing them back would be something people would enjoy, so of course we’re going to get a ridiculous trike or stryker or mech suit instead.

Yay, open topped under armed leman Russ and chimera vehicles. How fun and exciting…

I find them boring, they are pretty much official conversions of Leman Russ (Centaur) and Chimera (Salamander).

There is nothing intresting about them to me.

And extremely under gunned conversions at that.

The Centaur is absolutely nothing like a Leman Russ... it's 1/3 the size and a transport.

It’s literally a leman Russ hull with no sponsons, no turret and open topped.

it might be scaled down a bit, but it is undeniably a Russ variant.

I can’t tell if you’re kidding about the Centaur, which has [redacted] all to do with a leman Russ and was designed by the same team that made the Macharius/Crassus family of vehicles. The rumor says light/scout vehicles, which the Centaur and Salamander are. But who knows maybe you’ll get your Tonka trucks!

The rumor says light tank and/or half track.

neithe the centaur or the salamander count as a light tank. The centaur is basically a utility tractor.

I'll toss my vote in with the Carnodon.  It's technically a medium tank, not really a scout vehicle, but maybe the uninitiated could mistake it for a light tank.  Another out of production forgeworld kit, but this time for Horus Heresy.  However, there are suppose to still be a fair number of them kicking around Tallarn in the 41st millenium.

No reason besides I think it's cool and I'd like to see it come back.

The Centaur looks vaguely similar to the Leman Russ but shares no parts and is, in fact, microscopic next to the Russ, being the Guard's equivalent of the Universal Carrier.

Military Vehicle Spotlight: WWII British Universal Carrier

The Salamander is based on the Chimera chassis, as are many Guard vehicles such as the Basilisk, the Hellhound and the Hydra, because just like in real life it is often far more practical for a "new" vehicle to be adapted to its role from an existing design rather than designed entirely from scratch. The main argument against the Salamander I can see is that due to the direction the game has taken towards ever bigger and more ridiculous battles and units (on smaller boards, ironically), its role as a nimble, lightly armoured but cheap scout tank that can punch above its weight has been somewhat diminished. That said that could be ameliorated by giving it the option for something a bit punchier as its main armament like a lascannon, as a glass-cannon tank hunter. Also the command variant exists, which could give it a niche outside of blowing things up.

Its crappy design for Scout tank.

You have an open topped, Chimera sized tank without turret and armed only with Autocannon and heavy bolter.

Atleast give it a turret. You can do a lot better with Chimera chasis, but turret on Scout Tank is bare minimum.

Like a lot of older Forge World vehicles, the Salamander looks like it was an improvised design on an established chassis. I do agree a proper scout vehicle should be more compact and designed more intentionally, but that either involves the Mechanicus discovering a new STC hull and widely manufacturing it, or GW slipping a new vehicle into the game and telling us not to notice, like the Taurox.
