Hey everyone,

I’m still fairly new to 40K and only recently learned what “Legends” units are. I jumped in pretty quickly and picked up a few models before fully understanding how that impacts matched play and future-proofing.

Since then, the new Space Wolves release dropped, and I’ve already painted Logan Grimnar on Stormrider. I still have a Stormfang and a Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf that are primed and base coated. I also have plenty of non-Legends units I could focus on instead.

I’m trying to decide what makes the most sense:

  • Finish painting them and keep them in the collection?

  • Try to sell them and reinvest into current units?

  • Shelf them for now and focus on newer releases?

For those of you who’ve been through edition changes and range updates before — what would you recommend? Do Legends units tend to come back in some form, or is it better to move on early?

I’m open to competitive play but also really enjoy the hobby and collecting side, so I’m trying to make a smart long-term call.

Appreciate any insight.

I believe Legends have come back occasionally, like when the old Chaos Lord with Jump Pack was sent to legends but then received a new model. I wouldn't be optimistic on that front, though. Like @W.A.Rorie said, you can use them in friendly games. I'd keep them for now and work on them if you're enthusiastic about the minis. Maybe you could look into alternative rules or older editions to use them in?

For characters there's even the crucible of champions rules (don't really know what's in store for space wolves though)

I'm mostly a collector and don't play, so I'd say, if you like the look of the model, that's what matters most
