Vallejo True Metallic Metals Primer?

I just used the over normal GW primer, Grey Seer in the case of the stuff I'm currently working on. I've used Amethyst Purple and Imperial Gold so far and they cover well. I'll try and get pics when I'm home from work.

Only thing I will say is the shades flow a little differently than I am used to. They self-level really nicely but I found it easy to go too heavy on surfaces with them, but you get used to it.

Mine came (specifically Ruby Red) and I tested it over some various stuff I had already primed. Seems like it works well over medium/dark primers. It looked fine over Mechanicus Standard Gray and over Vallejo Black so I don't think you need to be too picky about what to use.

I used the Silver and Aged Metal sets over Vallejo airbrush primer. I'm kind'a left wondering what all the fuss is about though. They're fine, but imo not up to the hype so far. Maybe I'll change my mind as I spend more time with them, but for now I kind regret diving in as deep as I did. My AK, Vallejo Metal Color and Pro Acryl were working fine. Oh yeah, and Scale Color Necro Gold -- gonna miss that when I run out.

My impression was that the colored metals were what had people excited, but I'm a simpleton who still uses citadel metals so idk.

This is my read also. The normal metallics seem fine but there's lots of good metallics already. I have really liked the Ruby Red so far

I tried the Sterling Silver over a gloss black primer and I wasn't impressed. Vallejo's Metal Colour range still beats these a hundred times over.

That's not to say they're bad or anything, and at least with Sterling Silver I didn't have the horrible 'doused in glitter' flakey look on a lot of the videos (but I suspect that's because most videos were still applying them over a matt primer). Most of the influencers were certainly exaggerating in treating these like the Second Coming, especially the ones who had used Metal Colour prior to these.

They're probably the best out-of-the-pot coloured metallics but personally I'd still stick to mixing inks into Metal Colour over these.

From my perspective, the draw of the range is the vibrant coloured metallics which are easy out of the pot. I've always loved the metallic pre-heresy schemes but I don't have the space or time at the moment to achieve those looks with an airbrush. The other range of coloured metallics I've tried were the two thin coats ones, which I like as paint, but the coloyr just wasn't strong enough for me.

I am also enjoying experimenting with the shades a little. Next up is using the obsidian black shade over black templar or black legion applied over grey seer to give my Emperor's Children shiny black leather.

I'd be tempted to try some of these out, however having discovered just how good Vallejo Metal Colour is and how easy it is to either tint it with ink or clearcoat it with Kaleido's translucent acrylic paints (AKA the best aqueous clears ever made, at least in my experience) they'd need to be phenomenal to get me on board. I'm sure they're good, but I have a LOT of paint as it is so things really need to stand out from the crowd for me to buy them.
