Thank you all, that was interesting to learn about. At first I was thinking they have a very similar role but then started thinking about it more. Flashgitz seem like the sorts for short range, boarding action style guns and Loota's seem like the sorts for long range, kill big things guns. Kind of like the 2 new AdMech units built from the same box?

Lootas were definitely more fun in the 3E book, where they took options from the Marine and Guard Codices but were allowed to take from other books too with discussion before hand. I still want to make some weird Orks with Tyranid bio-weapons grafted on by a particularly mad dok.

Sadly that was the era of the gw deodorant landspeeder guide and sodacan terrian. These days gw would disqualify you if you 3d printed your bases. They'd never allow this level of customization today.

Am I imagining it or has the trickle slowed down further? Was there even a one liner of what rules we'd see this week?

Oh, I thought I just missed it. Maybe no rules previews this week then?

Looks like the full box reveal will be on Friday!! :jawdrop:

Which is far earlier than I would have expected - some big stuff is still to be shown (Speeder and Ork Walker for example)... ULess the release date is also sooner than I imagine. When is the box supposed to be on pre-order?

Preorder first weekend of June I think. Auspex did a video highlighting the 3rd weekend in June had been cleared out on WHWs calendar and so on.

That ties in pretty well with the last couple of editions IIRC. The usual pattern in the past has been launch mid-late June, let people go crazy with the new edition over the summer and then start dropping codices around September.

Think this might be the best topic to discuss rules changes in 11th that were glimpsed from the unboxing stream.  From the top:

They previewed a page of stratagems out of the core rulebook at about 13:50.  Of note:

1. Grenades is now Explosives/Grenades.  More models getting access to the stratagem?

2. Tank Shock is now Crushing Impact, applies to Monstrous Creatures and Vehicles.  I think on a d6 roll of 1, the crushing unit takes damage instead?

3. The big one, Overwatch is now done only at the end of the movement phase.  The unit you shoot does not have to have been moved, but they must be a valid target at the end of the movement phase (IE, can't shoot something that was visible but moved to cover).

4. Heroic Intervention is now 12 inches.

5. Smoke stratagem now protects the unit that used it, and units behind them.

6. Rules organization is, as suspected from WarCom reveals, now very AOS-like.

About 14:44, they show several datacards.

1. Pistols now have the Close Quarters keyword instead of Pistol.  Will be interesting to see how this plays out and what else it might extend to.  Tactical Terminators with Close Quarters Storm Bolters?

2. Plasma Pistol is d3 shots when not overcharged.

3. Cleave keyword introduced - it is described in audio as being like blast for melee, increasing attacks into larger units.

4. The Captain can be attached to Tactical Squads, according to his card.  That might be a nail in the coffin of the rumor saying that Tac Squads are getting sent to Legends, or it could simply mean this card will be invalidated completely with the 11th ed codex.  However, he has the Explosives keyword while his current incarnation has the Grenades keyword, implying that with the above change to the Grenades stratagem that Explosives will be the keyword going forward and Grenades is for backward compatibility... so maybe Tac Squads are staying?

5. Vanguard Vets get master crafted power weapons, like Bladeguard.

Throughout the stream they covered some rules tidbits in audio for different units.  Don't have timestamps for all of these:

1. The kombi-rokkit and kombi-shoota for the nobs leading the two boyz squads have different profiles (they didn't tell us what they are, just that these two combi weapons have different profiles).  Maybe heralding a change to all combi weapons?

2. Banner Nob has the Support rule (as expected, allows him to be attached to a unit that already has a Leader), and grants the unit a 5+ invul save.

3. Painboy is also Support, grants a 5+ FNP to the unit he joins.  The Grot Orderly is a token like you might expect to see in AoS (like the gryph-hounds or memorians for Stormcast) or like the little stones for Eldar aspect squads.  He does not have a stat line and represents a once-per-game ability to bring back some models in the attached bodyguard unit.

4. Wartrakk's rokkits are something like d3+3 attacks, strength 10, and damage 3.

5. Big Mek Dakka Rig gets more attacks into non MC/Vehicle targets with its big gatling gun (blast?).

6. Space Marine Ancients retain +1 OC for their squad, but they get a personal 4+ FNP if they are standing on an objective (not shared to their unit).

7. The Heavy Bolter Eradicators get Blast, along with all the other rules of Heavy Bolters (Sustained Hits 1, Heavy, etc).

8. The Landspeeder has the option of a heavy flamer or onslaught gatling gun for the underslung weapon, a multimelta on the pintle mount, and "stormfury missiles" under the wings.  The stormfury missiles are described on stream as being "basically like krak missiles," but missiles by that name are also present on the Thunderstrike speeder and they're more like lascannons.  The Landspeeder has a special rule called "Purgation Run" that allows it to move D6 inches after shooting.

That's pretty much everything I was able to glean from the stream.

I'm excited for this edition as I've just been a collector and painter (not great) for so many years now. I barely play even though I have terrain and gaming mats at home.

I am also a big BA fan.

I do not really need anything from the box, I don't play orks and still have the tyranid models from the last box on sprues along with the necrons from before that. If I can get a box great, but I'm not too worried about missing out on it if I don't. I haven't built the flyer from one of the previous marine boxes yet either lol.

I do however think the Orks look great and to me are the better models in the set.

I'll use the new edition to get playing more 40k and have just entered the world of kill team also.

Great time for the hobby.

Kinda strange to me that they didn't do a proper core book with all the lore for the other races/factions but they said it was a 10.5 more than a 11 so that's that.

I was also hoping they will announce the release date, they only said we will have the box by the end of June. We'll see.

We have very reliable deductions of release dates anyway based on their calendars. Preorders up 30th May, release 20th June.

Regarding the Captain being able to lead tactical squads, I imagine thats because GW is planning on sending them to legends on codex release and not edition launch. There will be a couple of weeks of 11th where they'll still be available from the 10th edition codex.

Exactly in the same way Phobos Captains were able to lead Scout Sniper squads until those got deleted.

Finally! Shotguns will now work in combat range.

Thinking about the potential implications of this change and you completely wiff some of the rolls dealing Mortal Wounds to your own charging unit.

Your Hive Tyrant stubbs his toe on a rock while charging.

A Centaur RSV pops a tire on a Chaos Marine's spikey helmet.

The warlord titan steps on a Lego.

Death Humiliation or glory.

Pre-order article for next week confirms the Faction Focus' will begin- well, next week.

Here at Warhammer Community, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Red Terror and the threat it brings to both Kill Team and Warhammer 40,000. Our Faction Focus series also kicks off, looking at how your army will work in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000.

Wild speculation on my part but I don't think they will be doing the 3 tiers of starter sets with this edition. Previous lower tier boxes had 5 of the basic space marine troops vs 10 xenos basic troops but the new space marine sprues seem to be 10 individual sculpts and not 2x 5 sculpt sprues. I can't see GW including 10 marines in the box or producing the 10 man sprue and throwing half in the bin.

I predict only 1 tier of starter will be sold this edition. The captain, 10 intercessors and landspeeder from Armageddon and the warboss, 20 boys, 10 gretchin and either the weirdboy or wartrakk (or both).

They could do what they did for 8th and have an introductory set of exclusive sculpts/units though I suppose.
