More because I am bouncing some ideas around rather than anything else. Tempted to paint a couple models just to see.

After playing against a Tau army and seeing how it worked, thinking this might be an interesting force to explore that seems different than anything else I have seen.

Fireblade-

Firesight team

2 Breacher squads

4 Strike Squads

1 Pathfinders

2x5 Stealth teams

2 Hammerheads

2 Skyrays

5 Devilfish

A very aggressive force with two scouting devilfish that should be able to put a lot of firepower downrange fairly quickly. 9 hulls, 60 troopers. More seeker missiles than you can shake a stick at. 18 smart missile systems and no battle suits. Also an army I am so far away from having built that it would likely be 12th edition before I finished building and painting so this is more of an exercise in would it work in todays 40k?

That's... a lot of Devilfish. You'll be fast, but it takes some of the teeth away from the army having that many transports. I'd only run two, one for your breachers, and use the rest of the points for some more punching power. Maybe Farsight and some suits for extra CP

Also the Firesight team is in the old resin and my not survive the edition transition if you're worried about models being moved to Legends.

This is more of a painting project at this point. I picked up a combat patrol box. I'll paint most of that up and see where it goes. If I like the end result I will expand further. I did intentionally not include any battlesuits aside from the stealth suits. Gone that route before in a couple of my 6 or 7 Tau armies I have had prior to this(and sold).  I am very ADHD on projects and have 15 orks, 10 corsairs and a goblin mordheim warband on my desk right now. I am going to start a thread on the projects page just to post this stuff. I really need to work on my DKoK, NL and IWs lol. But what I "need" to do isnt always what I feel motivated to do. Usually isnt, but unfortunately we have a mordheim campaign game saturday I need them for.

As for tactics, having faced a Tau force in the modern era(who knows about 11th) I saw how well basic troops, carriers and back up heavy weapon units(the tanks) do for the Tau. Being able to quickly either move up onto an objective or clear opponents off with such ease with all their insane rerolls. The only thing I didnt bring because I hate the thing is the Stormsurge. Too static but holy crap does it have a ton of fire power, especially with the Bork'n(experimental) detachment strat that turns everything lethal and sustained. "Oh no, I took a mortal wound guess I have 17 left." The devilfish themselves have some pretty good firepower with twin smart missiles, seeker missiles and that nice upgraded burst cannon. Tau are a far cry from the last time I really played them hard core in 5th or 6th when had cool names for the different varients, you could bring 1 or 3 suits in a team, and everyone but the leaders had BS3 and no rerolls at all for pretty much the entire army. I dont even think the commanders had CIBs or FABs yet. I only used the Hazard commander, O'Reilly or something like that.
