Hey guys, been a while.

Thought id swing by and ask some advice from the dedicated angels.

Im looking at building a death company army, bit of fun but also they look quite tasty if used with LAG.

i want to be efficient in £$ because im a poor prole.

Is it ok to just use new standard intercessor, assault intercessors and dreadnoughts and just paint the differences? would this pass muster at an official event?

Am i right in thinking the only choice, model wise are death co intercessors anyway?

where would i find a large number of eviscerators you think? any good bits sites still out there?

thanks guys

We don't have a dedicated kit anymore, so a paint job is fine. Eviscerators can be found on the upgrade sprue, but to get them in bulk is tricky. Perhaps the Nostraman chainglaives set from the HH line could work, but these might be Firstborn scale.

I'd also consider looking into Rage Cursed Onslaught as a Detachment as it can elevate Death Company even further.

There are some good 3D printing places online now. I have used Archies Forge quite recently and can vouch for the quality of his parts. Other vendors are available.

its only 6" for a normal character i believe, 12" for a chaplain isnt bad i suppose, just need to get placement right, no room for mistakes.

So far ive got

Rage cursed onslaught

Mephiston

Lemartes

Chaplain - master of red thirst

judiciar

5 assault intercessors with jump packs

-fist, plasma pistol

-plasma pistol

6 bladeguard veterans

-plasma pistol

10 death company marines

-power fist

-plasma pistol

-2 x eviscerators

10 death company with jump packs

-2 x power fist, inferno pistol

-power fist, plasma pistol

-eviscerator

5 scouts

-ccw

5 scouts

-ccw

Death company dreadnought

-blood talons

-multimeltas

Death company dreadnought

-blood talons

-multimeltas

Repulsor

-twin lascannon

-heavy onslaught gatling cannon

lots of fight first, a few breaks from the theme, BGV with judiciar are very good

I was thinking of dropping scouts in favour of reivers, dropping down to carry out actions for secondaries

i could switch out jet pack intercessors for death co on foot, as long as i get character placement sorted? but they dont have the range for early objective trading etc.

All thoughts welcome, im middling at 40k at best and im playing in a shark tank league, just got smashed vs slaanesh daemons

That looks a good list but a little light on anti-tank and ranged shooting. The first thing I would look at is whether that Repulsor is the right vehicle for the list. It only brings one lascannon to the part and the rest of it's shooting is anti-infantry. Also the Repulsor work best transporting shooty squads which don't really feature in your list. Your DC will blend infantry in melee so it might be worth looking at other options.

My first suggestion would be the good old Land Raider. It costs a bit more so you might need to shave some points off but it brings 4 lascannon shots to the party which is some respectable anti-tank. It is also tougher with a 2+ save. Lastly, it has the Assault Ramp rule meaning that your Bladeguard can ride into battle, disembark after it moves and still charge. This is my normal ride for my Bladeguard. It also has the SMOKE keyword which is very handy to blunt enemy shooting.

There are also a couple of tricks you might want to consider. Jump Assault Intercessors are good but changing one to Assault Intercessors on foot  led by a Captain is a really good option and gives you a Battleline unit (which is always handy to have). A really good option for the Captain is either the Angel's Fang or Rage Fuelled Warrior (depending on which Detachment you are running). This is a common trick because if the Captain triggers "Finest Hour" (and activates RFW) on the turn he charges, he gets a truly staggering number of attacks with Devastating Wounds. The Assault Intercessors allow you to reroll Wound rolls and so you can fish for 6s against tough targets. In optimum conditions (attacking an OOM target on an Objective), he can dish out about 12 Mortal Wounds (around 10 with Angel's Fang version). That is a huge potential damage spike if you need to kill something big and scary.

Lastly, the most recent update allows us to add a Sanguinary Priest to Bladeguard Veterans. Giving an already tough unit a 5+ Feel No Pain really boosts their durability. You cannot stack him with a Judiciar unfortunately but he can be stacked with a Captain or Lieutenant and you can give one of them a Fights First enhancement if you wish. I really like the combo of Sanguinary Priest and Lt. You get a 5+ FNP which boosts durability. You get Lethal Hits and an extra -1AP which really helps punch up into tough targets. Lasty you get the ability to Fall Back and Charge in the same turn which is really great for Blood Angels in either Detachment to keep our Charge bonuses active.

Of course all this costs points so you may need to consider where to shave off points. The first thing I would look at is the Assault Intercessors. They duplicate the functionality of the 5-man DC squads. My hunch is that you don't need 4 lots of trading pieces in the army, particularly as you have the Scouts as well. I would look to switch out 2 of the squads (your choice) to buy some or all of the upgrades I have suggested above as they will give you a lot more hitting power into tough targets.

Great advice thank you, i suppose with assault ramps, your less likely to need the asf on the BGV.

the list looks like this now:

Mephiston

Lemartes

Captain with sword/shield and angels fang

Lt -master of red thirst

Sanguinary priest

10 assault intercessors

5 assault intercessors with jump packs

5 assault intercessors with jump packs

6 BGV

10 death company with jump packs

5 death company with jump packs

5 death company with jump packs

Death co dread

Death co dread

Land raider

alternatively (having played with new recruit all day) i could lean heavily into DC only

Astorath

Mephiston

Lemartes

Chaplain with JP - master of red thirst

Judiciar - angels fang

10 death co assault marines

5 death co assault marines

5 death co assault marines

10 death co with bolt rifles

10 death co with jump packs

10 death co with jump packs

10 death co with jump packs

death co dread
