He looks weird... and that's the point. He's a Weird Boy lol

I saw someone elsewhere said it felt like they couldn't pick a lane.

It's not shamanic as per the old one. It's not got It's helpers or minders as per the fluff.

It's got all the techno gubbins, but not enough that it looks coherent, there's some warp lightning but not enough he looks like he's discharging.

There's comment just above about removing the staff, which is a quintessential element of the minis fluff.

It's not a bad mini at all imo, but it feels more like a mek than a weirdboy to me personally.

A model not conforming to what was expected isn't an objective negative, however.

I agree that the design is different from the old model, but I prefer it. I think he looks unhinged. I suppose this particular Weirdboy is more of a "Warp head"

It's not an objective negative, no. As I said myself It's not a bad mini, it just isn't for me.

Same way the vanguard vets got slapped down a bit for being plain, same thing really, horses for courses.

I think I know what it is. The issue is it has those cables flaring off it but no coruscating energy about them to denote the energy that is apparently causing it.

As such, it just looks like bad hair glued onto it.

What is confusing about people having different opinions?

Is the 11th edition thread confusing as well, with so many participants not agreeing on whether the changes are good or not?

Remember there will very likely be a multi-part standalone weirdboy release as well.

Sadly no such guarantee for whichever faction is against space marines in the starter box, see; Necrons Plasmancer, Neurotyrant, Noxious Blightbringer, etc.

Zog, there are Space Marine characters that haven't had separate releases after showing up in launch boxes. The Bladeguard Ancient, the Judicar, and Apothecary Biologis to name the ones that come to mind. Even being on a sprue with other units doesn't guarantee a separate release later.

I'm just generally surprised at the volume of negative reaction at what looks to me at least, like a slam dunk of a model.

He's weird, he stands out, it's obvious what he is at a glance, etc etc

And we also knew what he would look like in advance as we saw him in the cgi trailer.

If GW had released a silhouette only first no one would have likely said weird boy.

i think a lot of the people who like it wouldn’t have thought it was a weird boy if  a leak without a label had come out before the release.

i do not think it’s obviously a psyker at a glance at all. The one bit of energy coming out of the side of his head could easily be interpreted as electrical arcing if it were painted white/blue.

Yeah the guy with the glowing eyes doesn't look at all like a psyker.

I'm not at all sure what else it could be misconstrued as. I get that it isn't a slavish recreation of an ugly old miniature, but this guy has very obvious design cues for what he is.

That’s the paint job not the model itself, and why I specified if they released a silhouette of this model no one would have guessed psyker.

the only design cue is wizard staff.

Arguably the collar and the cables are also doing their job and conducting energy away. Which is why there are presumably no extra arcs: all the waagh juice is in the cables, which seemingly is represented as well by them being heat discolored into purple.

Either way, one can paint even more glow or do the old reliable paperclip lightning and either put them at the end of the cables or just outright snip the cables off and put the paperclips there.

I think he looks like one of those black fortress negavolt cultists on steroids. Gives me more dark mech vibes than ork psychic to be honest.

@Grotsmasha you are absolutely right! I didn't even notice. Who would grab a staff like this? Seems he wants to hand it over.

It's possible he is trying to hand his staff over as he's so overloaded with power he needs to unleash?

I do like it without the staff. Like he's gripping two jumper cables attached to a car battery and it's just going off.

Probably too many arcing doo-dads but I do agree one more would've really sold the idea that ifs not just regular lightning, tho I do think the original does a good enough job of that.
