Remember there will very likely be a multi-part standalone weirdboy release as well.

Will there?  What options would it have?  I reckon we'll just get this lad packed up individually.  Wondering how he's going to function as a pushfit, mind...

Yeah, replacing the cables makes a big difference to me, and while not the overall look I’d have gone with, this at least looks like an ork space wizard

Zog, there are Space Marine characters that haven't had separate releases after showing up in launch boxes. The Bladeguard Ancient, the Judicar, and Apothecary Biologis to name the ones that come to mind. Even being on a sprue with other units doesn't guarantee a separate release later.

All of these are characters that were invented for their respective boxes though. Weirdboyz are a long-standing character type that has been neglected, and also that you could plausibly take more than one of in your army.

Yeah the guy with the glowing eyes doesn't look at all like a psyker.

I'm not at all sure what else it could be misconstrued as. I get that it isn't a slavish recreation of an ugly old miniature, but this guy has very obvious design cues for what he is.

There is precedence in other miniatures and art where "ork with screws and/or cables in his head" is a type of mekboy. Not to mention all the Imperial and Chaos mechandendrites waving about on techpriests and warpsmiths. So I understand where this:

Looks a bit like these:

But there also is canon stories like Guy Haley's Prophets of WAAAGH! in which they drill some holes into the local psychic oddboy's head to hook him up to their forcefield generator to make a psychic shield.

I think some chains in place of some of the floating cables coming off his "psykick collar" would read as unleashed psychic power better, while keeping the same silhouette and being a throwback to the chains on the old model.

None of the big electric stuff is like a hat; it is embedded into the new guys head; seems like a pretty obvious difference off the rip. He's collared like a prisoner.

I do see the resemblance with the third pic tho. I would say that guy not being yoked specifically makes them pretty different though.

It's a good update.

The cables and electrodes and other gubbins coming off his do look like a Mek's work. Presumably because they are a Mek's work.

To try and keep his power under control, or maybe focus it into an even greater weapon somehow.
