happyslugger Posted April 30 Share Posted April 30 Hi folks. Just started to look at Kill Team and played a couple of simple games to try and learn some of the rules. I've got a large collection of 40k armies, so plan to use the toys I have to make the kill teams. At the moment we are just using my BA and DG as the marines and plague marines from the starter box. Luckily I have all the loadouts already. Very much doubt I will play in any tournaments, or things like that. Hopefully I can be more involved here and learn a few things along the way. It's nice to scratch the 40k itch without having to spend half a weekend playing a 2k game and setting tables, etc up. Angels of Death/Deathguard probably have the easiest 40k->KT model list, though there are a few others that are direct ports (Void Dancer Troupe would be another for you to look at based on your signature). happyslugger Posted May 5 Author Share Posted May 5 We played a few games (just basic rules) over the weekend and it was good fun. Even my wife had a go. I'm just using the online app rules at the moment so that helps. Luckily with my model collection we can actually field 11 kill teams, so plenty to keep us busy. I think it will be good for us as playing a 2k 40k battle can take over the weekend sometimes. I purchased the full rule book and have re-written the rules out in my own words which I shall read again (and again) and I also purchased the Ops 2025 cards. I just had a little game myself (Plague marines vs AOD) just me working through things, trying to remember rules and how things work / interact. I left out some of the team specific elements / equipment / ploys and tried to focus on the actual gameplay rules. Apart from playing further games and trying to remember / fix errors - any other advice on how to get to grips with things faster or gain better understanding? Typically I like to kind of introduce people to Kill team across 2-3 games. 1st game - Core mechanics. This game is focused on teaching the basic gameplay. I set up the board with 3 objectives and play a simple objective control game without equipment, ploys, or tac-ops. I typically have the new player run AoD (or some other elite team with few special rules) into a horde team that I pilot to give them an idea of moving/shooting/fighting/cover/etc. 2nd game - Expanded rules. Introduce the Crit-Op (primary mission), and Ploys. I typically leave out secondaries and equipment 3rd game - Full Rules Alternatively, I've had a lot of fun lately running NPO missions for intro games. Me and the new player both get half a team, and we play against NPO operatives. This allows me to explain ALL the rules in one game. I again try and use AoD because they're comparatively rules lite, and marine durability means they wont get wiped too early. Having the learning game be cooperative experience has been great. It moves more quickly and I can demonstrate rules/interactions with my operatives, as well as include ploys and equipment as there is only 1 team to track all the stuff for. Finally there are lot of "how to play Kill-Team" video's out there that are very helpful. GlassHalfDead and CanYouRollACrit on youtube both have solid teaching videos for certain mechanics, but they're just two among dozens.
