Blissful Brushes Posted May 11 Share Posted May 11 (edited) In a 1k game is ~35 guardsmen enough? I currently have a command squad, 10 man squad, 2 snipers, a heavy bolter and 2 extra vox guys. Im just trying to gauge what I need to get to build a semi balanced list that won’t get waffle stomped by turn 3. Malice Jr. Posted May 11 Share Posted May 11 I got in on the Valhallans when they did made-to-order. I'm tempted to get these guys but last time I only got two squads and 1 set of heavy weapons. Ended up scrounging the rest of the army off eBay and that was pricey. The actual Platoon is a saving as a bundle I suppose? Individually it'd be £216 but you're getting it for £134, which is the only 'decent' deal there really. But you don't get the flamer in the platoon, they've subbed him out for a grenade launcher and plasma gun. Also, two snipers (better models IMO) are only £25, so why are the other special weapons 22?! I might actually be better off scouring eBay for just the handful of models I absolutely need to bring the existing squads into the modern era. I had hoped the command squad would be slightly less given it’s not game legal. Looks like the idea of Dorn Commander with a Vostroyan banner bearer standing on the back of the turret is getting shelved again. It does look like they don’t want to bother with individual sales, but just want to sell the platoon, doesn’t it? A plastic Apothecary will set you back £29 these days so less than that for models they’re doing a special run on isn’t as bad as it could be tbh. I will pick up the platoon I think, maybe a set of snipers too to bring me up to 4 This is what I currently have and selling the extra command squad models probably makes it a reasonable deal for me. I’ll have to convert 2 heavy weapons for Heavy Bolters but I have them on the sprue anyway going spare. That would give me Command Squad (owned): - Commander, chainsword, Master-Vox, Medic, Regimental Standard (owned already) Squad 1 (owned): Sgt w/Power sword, Vox, Flamer, Grenade Launcher, 6 guardsman (owned already) Squad 2 (new) Sgt w/Power fist, Vox (I have a 3rd somewhere), plasma gun, Grenade Launcher, 6 guardsman Squad 3 (new) Sgt w/Power Sword & Plasma pistol, 8 guardsman (or 7 if I keep Vox from command squad) Heavy Wepaons - Lascannon (new) Heavy Weapons - Bolters (current/convert) Ratling Squad - mix 2 current snipers + 2 new + something else to make up #5 That would leave the following to sell on as I don’t think 2 command squads that look so identical can work on a force I’m building to 1k max: 2 or 3 Guardsman Commander banner medic maybe a vox Edited May 16 by Blissful Brushes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387886-vostroyan-firstborn-made-to-order-1605-2505/page/3/#findComment-6171520 Share on other sites More sharing options...
