Arikel
1 hour ago, Firedrake Cordova said: the standard bearer looks like an interesting conversion Took a while to figure out. Whoever made The krieg command squad has made some “interesting” choices, including the heinous heathenly heretical decision that the commissar can have a las pistol or a plasma pistol, but no bolt pistol. How that got all the way into full production is impossible to fathom. I try not froth at the mouth and gather wood for the burning at the stake this sin require too often but it definitely hits me right in my lore bits. Body and head is from the escher deathmaiden. Used a cut off pony tail from a sister of silence instead of the tri-tails the deathmaidens come with for the back of her hair, but don’t think that shows in this picture. In their great wisdom, G-Dub decided that krieg banner bearers carry a standard lasgun, because why would anyone who can only use one hand to fight with want a sword or pistol, when they could try shooting a full size rifle one handed while carrying a 8 to 10 foot long pole with a flag that would fit a queen size bed comfortably with room to spare in the other? The gun arm is I think the supporting arm for the heavy stubber from the escher weapons upgrades kit. The hand was cut off and replaced with the cut off hand from a cadian shock trooper bit, where he’s holding his gun by the mid grip while throwing a grenade with the arm that would normally hold the trigger. The banner arm is an escher shoulder (forget which arm I cut) with the forearm and the staff coming from a Battle Sister bit that usually has a sort of cage at the top of the pole with a bunch of cherubs stuck to it. Cutting the shoulders and forearms off those and getting the arms to fuse together with plastic cement wasn’t the happiest time but it came together in the end:) I had to trim some of the top parts of the pole off because it kept getting stuck on the bloody headress thing, but figured if any of the Violators would wear those it should be someone special, they’re too flashy for the basic platoons and don’t really feel officerish either, but bannermen are already silly, why not a special hat too! The flag itself is a back banner for sm that came stock in pretty much every space marine kit ever made before primaris were a thing. Saying I have dozens in my bits box is only a slight exaggeration;) glad I found a use for one of them. Once I get the base paint on I’ll see if I’ll need to break out the greenstuff that’s been staring ominously at me since I bought it at least a year ago to fill any gaps, but I think i did okay on smoothing the cuts and getting plastic glue to properly fuse the parts together that I won’t need too. I chopped a bit off the bottom of the pole, but decided later to stick her on the hero rock and realized I might not have needed to in the end, but still looks good i think. Here’s a parts list if you ever want to give it a go. I had 2 escher gang kits, one deathmaiden kit and one escher weapons upgrades kit as my base. I chose eschers as a base partly because they look awesome (punk rock amazons covered in spikes fighting in 6 inch demonia platform heals speaks to me for some reason) but also they come with 8 lasguns per pack, which makes them a bit easier to change into guardsmen, a lot of the gangs come with much more esoteric weaponry standard (2 from each pack are the one hand grip leaning on shoulder style though, so still sourced some from other places in the end, for variety) Figured out the exact Parts For the bannermaiden if you want to try making one. Escher Bits: Deathmaiden body, deathmaiden Head and headress, shoulder and upper arm from an escher right arm(unknown) left arm is heavy stubber support arm from escher weapon upgrades (hand chopped off). Has ponytail chopped off a sister of silence head in the back. Left hand: Cadian shocktrooper bit, (figure 3B, part 106 on the sprue, chopped the arm off) Right arm: battle sister bit (figure 3b, part 25 and 26, cut carefully at the elbow to remove the SoB shoulder and leave the whole glove, and clipped the cage with cherub off the top. Later had to clip the 4 little flanges down as the headress wouldn’t fit properly with them untouched. Topped with an sm blank back banner with a skull topper on it. The nice thing with eschers is that they also come with 2 shotguns per gang kit, and another 2 shotguns with the weapon upgrades, so I have 6 right now (used up all my bodies) Might buy a 3rd gang kit and make a group or two of siege engineers for my krieger standins. There’s also the possibility of getting 3 of the escher jetbike kits, which gives 12 jetbikes, so enough for a fullsize cavalry squad (death riders or attila standins), one to mock up as the named mounted krieg officer if I wanted, and one to make a mounted character using the custom crucible rules. For further expansion, definitely gonna try my hand at a Tank Girl-esque rogal dorn to back them up (got 2 from the cadian battle box a while back). The new halftracks would suit them for transports, and I’m gonna take a look at Goliaths for some big angry punker Ogryn types to hit things good. Orlocks and the 4 man hive scum kit might work to sprinkle a few dudes into the regular squads, I think much more than 2-3 squads of chicas will start looking really samey without a lot of extra work otherwise. Lots of fun anyways. They’ll be joined later on by cadians painted up in blue and white(perhaps with some custom golden boar decals if I can get them made), the SAPD (Santa Angelica Pacification Divisions) employed by the Iron Boots and to mop up and hold recently conquered planets, as well as the first responders to take out minor threats and suppress rebellion before it gets organized. (They’ll be armed to deal with lightly armoured hordes primarily, flamers and lots of high RoF lower ap blasts and weapons ) The krieger christmas box was too cool to pass up also, so that might happen to at some point. Firedrake Cordova
That sounds like quite an in-depth and frustrating conversion process! The modern GW kits do look excellent, but they often don't seem to lend themselves to conversions as easily as the older ones. Nagashsnee
These look great! Great use of the munda kits to make a guard regiment.
