Black Legion WIP thread

So, I though I could start a thread for putting together my BL force.  I think I did something similar for my harlequins and DG / Chaos daemons a while ago.  Hopefully keeps me motivated to actually get things done.  I am not a pro level painter and do not have an airbrush, so it takes me ages to do things.

 

My wife got me the Abaddon model years ago when he came out and I painted that up and nothing else.  So figured now was the time to get this done before I do my final army (my revamped blood angels).

 

I have so far painted:

 

10 x CSM

5 x Dark Vengeance Chosen

1 x Dark Vengeance Lord

2 x Obliterators

5 x Raptors.

 

I plan to do the Chosen Champion / Librarian / dark apostle over the next few days.

 

Then have the following to build and paint:

 

2 x Combat patrols (old ones with helbrutes in).

2 x Obliterators (saved from Ebay as were the other 2).

The Veterans of the long war box set

2 x boxes of raptors (one of which I picked up in a local charity shop for £15 years ago still sealed).

2 x Murderwing 

1 x new Mutilators

1 x Predator tank (repurposing an old blood angels one).

1 x dark vengeance helbrute (paid £15 years ago for it).

1 x Master of Possession

1 x Lord with hammer

1x terminator lord

1 x Haarken World Claimer

I still have my very old Chaos marines with the forgeworld lascannon and autocannons - I may use those also at some point

40 x old cultists from Dark Vengeance (Ebay purchases again, I am not looking forward to painting those - 60 pox walkers killed me).

 

I then have:

 

1 x Khârn the betrayer

1 x exalted of the red angel box

I may do these as hounds of Abaddon, haven't decided.

 

I will add that this has been purchased over the years, not in one go lol.  A lot I have found on Ebay going cheap.

 

I don't have many tanks / maulerfiends  / forgefiends / Rhinos / Landraiders to build or paint as I will just bring those in from my death guard / T.sons armies and say Abaddon has borrowed them lol.  I don't want to go and buy more of them unless I spot them on Ebay and they need saving or are cheap.  I have them, but they are painted to represent other armies.  We do not play comps or in tourneys, so it wont matter to my group.

 

Just wondering what I should build and paint up next, some terminators or some warp talons?  I will try and post up some images as I go along, although was never a fan of imgur or whatever it was called.

Ah, it would appear Imgur now cannot be used in the UK?  So I am unsure what to use now to post some images?

Never mind, I tried a VPN and logged into Imgur and uploaded the images.

 

Then pasted them here only for them to show as a blue plain background and the words content not accessible in your region.

You could host them in the Bolter and Chainsword galleries, that's what I do. Excited to see those Dark Vengeance Chosen.

I wouldn't get too excited my painting is not great lol.

 

How do I go about hosting them here?

 

I have resized them in LR and then downloaded as small jpegs even they are too large a file size.

 

I have now tried small JPEG at 70% quality, so real potato images but gives an idea

Thanks for taking a look! Can you see the picture on my latest post? I've hosted it on the Bolter and Chainsword gallery, so if it works for you you could use that as an option. :)

I went to the gallery and had a look but it appears it wants me to link them from a URL and I haven't got them online anywhere and when I upload the images directly to it, I am bouncing against the file size again

These look really good, I really like the Dark Vengeance minis and Abbadon's sword (along with the rest of him) looks awesome. For hosting here, generally the file size I save is around 93 kb so it may very well be a file size thing.

Yes, I think it is the file size I am struggling with.

Started this fella and think I will use him as either another Lord, Dark Apostle (although have those in the combat patrol boxes) or a sorcerer.

 

Still a few bits to sort out but getting there.

 

I have prepared some warp talons last night (wife is away this weekend) and repurposed my old predator tank from my blood angels.

I'm going to build a helbrute next. 

 

How are people running them?

 

I've got a dark vengeance one with Fist and Melta, so was thinking plasma and hammer, or lascanon and hammer or something 

 

I know they aren't great but I have the models

Helbrutes are fine in casual games. They are quite fun and often my opponents tend to go after my more effective units leaving the Helbrute free to contribute substantively. I run mine with hammer and lascannon.

Looking at it, I can probably magnetise the two arms. 

 

I'm likely only to use a melta, lascanon, plasma or fist. Looking at the instructions the three guns share the same piece to connect to the body, and the fist comes with its own connection bit attached. So a couple of magnets inside the body will allow me to swap the fist arm for the connecting bit for the three guns. 

 

This is the same for both the fist and missile launcher on the opposite side, so that's easy. 

 

The hammer scourge thing won't be the same. So, I think I will build the hammer and leave the scourge off. 

 

That way I can have a choice of melta, plasma, lascanon and fist on one side. Then on the other I can swap the fist, missile and hammer.

I've magnetized mine to have all the weapon options - here's the tutorial I used, it worked really well for my two.

 

BTW, the red claws on the black and brass of your warp talons looks fantastic.

The magnets will be pretty straight forward. I watched a YouTube video and the chap didn’t even drill some bits. 
 

I’ve magnetised knights, daemons, my custodes and harlequin bikes so this should be a walk in the park lol (famous last words).

 

I got the idea for the red claws from an image I saw online. I’m not very creative so when I’m doing painting and such I look online for something to try out or follow.

Well the wife is back now so the hobby weekend is over. 

 

I managed to build and fully magnetise the helbrute all weapons and both arms. Got around the hammer and scourge by placing green stuff and magnets in the top of the two arms. 

 

Only weapon I didn't build was heavy bolter option as it's never going to get used. 

 

Hardest thing was the stupid scourge spikes. Trying to get them to fit and stick took ages.
