Lord Marshal
HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!! Quote The kit comes with the options to base Cain and Jurgen separately or back-to-back on a larger base to make a mini diorama. Quote To celebrate the release of Cain’s new miniature, a special illustrated and annotated version of his first full-length novel, For the Emperor, is also coming out. The classic tale sees Cain and his regiment of Valhallans struggling to maintain order at an Imperial outpost on the edges of the T’au Empire. darkhorse0607
I am so happy. The way they painted Cains face is weird and makes him look like a monkey But I am so happy Lord Marshal, Rhavien, sbarnby71 and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387972-ciphas-cain-and-jurgen-model/#findComment-6171762 Share on other sites
DemonGSides
I don't like them. Faces just seem wrong. Cool commisar model as long as the head is removable. And Jurgen is the same. I agree, super hyped they get minis but compare them to the artwork in the back of the promo and one is a chiselled handsome commissar and the other looks like the chimp from the Robbie Williams movie. sitnam
I haven't read the Cain stuff in years (2008?) but man these are cool. GW painting hardly ever looks good on faces. Id hold judgement on them Edited 59 minutes ago by sitnam ggergnayr, Lord Marshal, mel_danes and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387972-ciphas-cain-and-jurgen-model/#findComment-6171765 Share on other sites

Probably because any artwork where Cain is attractive or heroic is, rather amusingly, firmly established as in-universe propaganda. Cain isn't particularly attractive otherwise - and Jurgen very definitely isn't. redmapa
I like it, the face is a bit weird but I think it fits this idea that the mini isn't peak Cain but middle aged, a bit chubby, bit worn and not like the propaganda posters yet still being the smug bastard he can be. Orange Knight
Lord Marshall is so fast with the updates. This is a must-buy mini. I don't actually like it all that much, I think he looks off, but he's still too much of an icon. Fingers crossed that he has some thematic rules! Too big of an opportunity to miss. On the faces, I did a workshop with Erik Swinson the other day and he showed the difference the paint job makes on a model. He redid the derpy Uriel Ventris model and it's a night and day difference on the same sculpt: I think the 'eavy Metal paint job just isn't all that suited to faces. I've seen some proper rank looking blokes manage this. Helps in the suspension of disbelief. grailkeeper
So sick. Having his gun in a holster is a clever move. In the books he uses a laspistol. In the book covers he always uses a bolt pistol. The fans have rationalised this as the book covers being in universe propaganda. I think that's a deliberate choice by the sculptor. I do think the smug look on the model makes it look more like the in universe propaganda hero of the Imperium Cain, rather than the self daunting character Cain. They should have done this years ago. Even though Commissars are the Primaris lt of guard models this is one I've wanted for ages. zulu.tango, sitnam and DarkChaplain 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387972-ciphas-cain-and-jurgen-model/#findComment-6171774 Share on other sites

Still a fair shot away from what I feel he got. zulu.tango
I'm thrilled Jurgen is so :cuss:-ugly. The lack of webbing/pouches covering his greatcloak is a dropped detail, but I'm pretty happy otherwise. The Cain face is fine, the paint job is what is awful. The huge highlights under his eyes make his cheekbones look insane. The highlights combined with the facial hair make him look more simian. I'm glad they gave him a Bruce Campbell chin Edited 11 minutes ago by zulu.tango spelling/phrasing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387972-ciphas-cain-and-jurgen-model/#findComment-6171779 Share on other sites
Blissful Brushes
I think he looks pretty good. A bit more stereotypical napoleonic era English gentleman than commissar though. Would go well with my Vostroyans though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387972-ciphas-cain-and-jurgen-model/#findComment-6171782 Share on other sites
