The kit comes with the options to base Cain and Jurgen separately or back-to-back on a larger base to make a mini diorama.

To celebrate the release of Cain’s new miniature, a special illustrated and annotated version of his first full-length novel, For the Emperor, is also coming out.

The classic tale sees Cain and his regiment of Valhallans struggling to maintain order at an Imperial outpost on the edges of the T’au Empire. This new edition includes 15 brand-new illustrations and 130 annotations by author Sandy Mitchell.

I don't like them.  Faces just seem wrong.

Cool commisar model as long as the head is removable.  And Jurgen is the same.

I agree, super hyped they get minis but compare them to the artwork in the back of the promo and one is a chiselled handsome commissar and the other looks like the chimp from the Robbie Williams movie.

Probably because any artwork where Cain is attractive or heroic is, rather amusingly, firmly established as in-universe propaganda. Cain isn't particularly attractive otherwise - and Jurgen very definitely isn't.

Lord Marshall is so fast with the updates.

This is a must-buy mini. I don't actually like it all that much, I think he looks off, but he's still too much of an icon.

Fingers crossed that he has some thematic rules! Too big of an opportunity to miss.

I mean, he gets plenty of romantic action in the books, so there must be a bit going for him. Cain that is.

On the faces, I did a workshop with Erik Swinson the other day and he showed the difference the paint job makes on a model. He redid the derpy Uriel Ventris model and it's a night and day difference on the same sculpt:

I think the 'eavy Metal paint job just isn't all that suited to faces.

I've seen some proper rank looking blokes manage this. Helps in the suspension of disbelief.

So sick.

Having his gun in a holster is a clever move.

In the books he uses a laspistol. In the book covers he always uses a bolt pistol. The fans have rationalised this as the book covers being in universe propaganda. I think that's a deliberate choice by the sculptor.

I do think the smug look on the model makes it look more like the in universe propaganda hero of the Imperium Cain, rather than the self daunting character Cain.

They should have done this years ago. Even though Commissars are the Primaris lt of guard models this is one I've wanted for ages.

Oh I get that, but he's noted to be in good nick and not unattractive nevertheless. Still a fair shot away from what I feel he got.

I'm thrilled Jurgen is so :cuss:-ugly. The lack of webbing/pouches covering his greatcloak is a dropped detail, but I'm pretty happy otherwise.
The Cain face is fine, the paint job is what is awful. The huge highlights under his eyes make his cheekbones look insane. The highlights combined with the facial hair make him look more simian. I'm glad they gave him a Bruce Campbell chin
