brother_b
https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/n2o417rj/warhammer-40000-faction-focus-genestealer-cults/ I was looking at the neophyte masses rule they heal 3 wounds if in cover. I wonder if the banner will still give D3 or it’s just better while they’re in cover. Edit: So I watched the release video and they said it’s an additional three models, plus the banner plus whatever else. So this could be some very resilient neophytes. I’m happy because I have about 60 painted I believe. I’m getting a little more excited for 11th just seeing what they’re trying to do with our basic troops. Maybe there will be some more flavor that was missing last edition. Also, I hope when we inevitably get our 11th edition codex they make the magus worth something! Rogue
I really like the look of the genestealer mini-detachment - S5/T5 stealers with free up-down moves feels very strong. I'm already running two units of ten in my current Xenocreed 1500pt list, and they can be a handful as they are now. brother_b
More to think about: https://assets.warhammer-community.com/eng_09-06_warhammer40000_faction_pack_genestealer_cults-ee2tg004ty-lfbh6g1gr7.pdf I’m sure we’re all just planning for Ascension Day. I love the Heroes detachment and could add that to Xenocreed. Same for the pure strain detachment. That would be awesome to couple with biosanctic broodsurge. I’m going to have to get back to finishing my GSC army now is a great time and opportunity. Rogue
Yeah, still keen on the purestrains - fall back and charge, can't shoot them outside of 9", reactive move (knowing that we can easily move back in our turn). That'll make them very difficult to engage with. What do you make of the potential issue that's been highlighted regarding units with characters. Character don't have the Ambush rule, but are now tied to their unit - so any unit with a character won't be able to Ambush... brother_b
I think it’s an oversight only. There are stratagems that will work on units to pull them back into strategic reserves. If they did intend that then the army would have a massive nerf and most character units would be unplayable and unable to use many of the ambush/strategic reserve based stratagems. Rogue
The more I look at it, the more I agree. As Christian von Carmian pointed out, it would be the same as telling any other faction that their army rule no longer applies to any unit with a leader - no Oath of Moment for your Captain and his bladeguard; no Orders for any Guard unit with an officer... Given the number of other errors (or failures to fully update) that have made it in to the faction pack, I think this is just someone at GW failing to anticipate the issue, and so failing to do anything about it. Either that, or Ambush is near dead in the water. Dr. Clock
Honestly feels like one of the few armies that could get away with just taking all three 1DP just on the backs of Stealers + Neos being kinda interesting. I'm not likely to do it, but you could. With the Purestrain or Neo one in the mix I'm also now way more likely to do Outlander Claw since the Outlander benefit is a decent minor skew, and the utility of Stealer skirmish or Neo bricks lets you go hard on the 1DP benefits. That's my theory anyway. 15-20 Genestealers as a 1DP is a solid bet tho, and can even be min/maxed to a 2x5 since you can res them if they die anyway. We all know the army kinda just doesn't work without 40 Neophytes and preferably 60, so making them even stiffer will be welcome in any list. Masses might be a better option that the Purestrains on pure utility and alignment with what the army already does. Basically it's a toss-up over whether I take the 3rd Neo brick with that detachment, or the 3x5 stealers and that one. First I'll try the Stealers since they're an often ignored fave. Cheers, The Good Doctor. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387993-any-thoughts-on-the-gsc-faction-focus/#findComment-6175366 Share on other sites
brother_b
I’m really liking biosanctic brood surge with neophyte buff detachment. Big old chunky bricks to hold objectives and cover while the monsters put in work? Sounds great to me! Could also try the Genestealer option with broodsurge for even more powerful stealers!
