Kallas
A true legend. RIP John Blanche, I must have spent days worth of my life just pouring over his art in various books, such an incredible body of work and an immeasurable influence on the hobby as a whole. Rusted Boltgun
I have started the biography @ZeroWolf but haven't finished it. What I have read was certainly interesting but it wasn't quite what I'd hoped for. But it is a biography not an autobiogrpahy which is probably what I really wanted. I ought to go back and finish it as my initial assessment may be unfair. There are also a few recent interviews online which I really want to watch. There are so many anecdotes online from people who knew him that are testament to who he was. What a legend. I backed the recent Möderin Kickstarter and whilst the Femme miniatures were great, for me it was the little Voodoo Bears that resonated, rough little sketches brought to life in miniature - very dark in the way they were stitched together and had sharp little claws but also fun playing their instruments. It is a real shame that he won't get to see 'John Blanche's En Garde' fully realised on the tabletop. firestorm40k, ZeroWolf and Antarius 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388022-john-blanche-has-passed-away/page/4/#findComment-6173973 Share on other sites
Crimson Longinus
What can be said? The was a legend and this is a great loss. I have always loved Blanche's art. Imaginative, weird, having very distinct style. He channelled renaissance masters such as Bosch and Grünewald, and mixed it with scifi and fantasy in absolutely unique way. Not only did Blanche make me fall in love with 40K, he has influenced me professionally; I am an artist, and he has always been a great inspiration to me. It is weird that a person I have never met would have such a big impact on me. I can think only couple of other people who have had such an influence on me. I am really glad I got the Mörderin models based on his art. It will be bittersweet painting them now. Thank you, John. You were one of the greats. Yeah, I'd loved an autobiography, but guess that was never on the cards sadly. I need to look at more of the interviews he gave. Magos Takatus
It took me a day to get to it, and for some reason my photos didn't upload to the cloud for an obnoxiously long time, but here. A fantastic book. I wish they would sell this book again so other people could enjoy it, but I'm sure some people would be angry at GW for doing that.
