hd3
I have finally almost reached the bottom of my last pot of nuln oil gloss and so I am at last forced to look for an alternative. Does anyone know which product (preferably off the shelf) will get me the closest glossy black thin wash equivalent? I've heard some good things about army painter dark tone gloss but have never tried any of the army painter paint range. Thanks in advance! Karhedron
I don't know of anything off the shelf but I am also looking as my remaining pot won't last me much longer. The best solution I have heard is a mix of Vallejo gloss medium and black artists acrylic ink (e.g. Liquitex) but I haven't tried it myself. hd3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388038-best-equivalent-to-nuln-oil-gloss/#findComment-6174082 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
My first guess would be to add gloss medium to the current regular Nuln Oil to make it shiny and/or add Contrast Medium to make it go into the recesses more (the current line of Shades uses Contrast medium as the base - the old "regular" Nuln Oil used something else, not sure what). The difficulty with that approach is that as you dilute the matting agent, you also dilute the pigment. That's very true. It really depends on how "strong" each are (I have no idea), and whether the desire is the glossy finish or "runs more into the recesses" property of the old gloss wash.
