Whilst they've gone back and updated the marine article with the Force Dispositions, they've not added any of the Detachment Keywords to the old Detachment erratas. At least in the Dark Eldar, there's no issue with doubling down on Coven/Kabal/Cult etc.

Do we know what the dispositions actually mean yet? Or do we need the card deck for that?

There's a version of the cards from the various previews here on GDMissionsApp.

That the detachment you pick also changes the style of game you play definitely takes some thinking over - even more so when it changes the game your opponent is also playing.

I'm definitely coming at this far too much from the old mindset, rather than properly thinking what might I need for my specific 6 missions against 6 different types of opponent.

I appreciate that there is a lore reason for most of them. Like the two Destroyer Cult themed Necron detachments have Purge the Foe, or Orks having a third of their dispositions be Purge because they want to fight. I'm sure some are there purely to let the army access the disposition if they want, but makes most detachments play into the fantasy of what they are.

There is a clear hierarchy of power. Purge is the most competitive Disposition while Recon and Priority Assets are both decent. Take and Hold is weaker and Disruption is definitely for people who like a challenge or want to handicap themselves against newer players.

For now...

It is likely to be for at least the first year of 11th edition since these interactions are baked into the missions. The only way to change the relative strengths of the dispositions would be to change the missions themselves which normally only happens when a new deck of mission cards are produced.

Currently, Purge vs Take & Hold can be loosely described as shooting fish in a barrel. The T&H player lines up their units and the Purge player knocks them down.

To a degree. Tabletop Battles (formally Goonhammer) has reviewed, in some depth, all the dispositions and their relative matchups. They did conclude Purge feels the strongest and is certainly heavily favoured against Take & Hold - but they also have Take & Hold as one of the weaker dispositions overall.

The other thing which we're starting to see is how the dispositions interact with detachments. If you're playing BA and want LAG, well you're on Take and Hold. Gladius - you get Priority Assets, so you need a lot of action units which is going to limit how much damage you can do.

Honestly, something like Ironstorm plus Librarius Conclave playing Purge sounds pretty scary at the moment. Similarly, my Necrons are currently looking at Pantheon & Hand of the Dynasty, again opening Purge as a disposition feels neat.
