Marduk:

Marduk-1.jpg

“I serve the Great Schemer with the promise of great rewards.”

One of four Word Bearers in the squad to favor a specific Chaos God over the others, Marduk chose Tzeentch as his preferred Chaos God. Given that the OATS favor Tzeentch the most despite officially being Chaos Undivided, Marduk in turn gets along best with them of all their Word Bearers allies, finding much common cause. Though he does not have any Psyker powers to speak of, he fights on in the hope that, one day, the Changer of Ways will reward his service and loyalty with such coveted powers. In the meantime, he finds that a Boltgun still does quite nicely.

Straight up, Tzeentch is my favorite Chaos God decisively. You will see plenty of evidence of this when I show off subsequent Chaos characters in my other Warbands. But for now, we've got Marduk here bringing Tzeentch rep to my Word Bearers. Good for him!

I don't think it came out too clearly in the pictures, but I gave Marduk purple lenses on his helmet for a more "sorcerous" feel, to help him further stand out visually.

Sargonnas

Sargonnas-1.jpg

“New conquests. Wonderful.”

A vicious tyrant, Sargonnas had been a pirate and wannabe warlord on a backwards planet before the Word Bearers found him and put him through the process of becoming a Heretic Astartes. This procedure should not have made him into a full one, but rather something more in the vein of Kor-Phaeron, who had likewise undergone augmentations late in life. But remarkably, Sargonnas emerged as fully Astartes as any Legionnaire who began the process at the usual age. Taking this as a blessing from the Chaos Gods, Sargonnas was embraced into his squad with open arms by his peers. He has since shown himself to be an able warrior, if also crueler and less well intentioned than most of the OATS’ other allies. For Sargonnas, conquest matters more to him than any kind of ideals.

Given how kind of generic this guy's armaments, pose, and design are compared to a lot of my other customs, I'd say I gave him a better bio than he maybe deserved. I do like the black tuft on the bottom of his chainsword though.

Back-shot. Really should have painted the eye in the center a different color...

Sargonnas-4.jpg

Another dead Battle Sister. Would you believe me if I said I actually really like the Sisters of Battle? Because I do! I think the fact that the Word Bearers are the antagonists of that Sisters of Battle VR game that prompted me to have so many dead Sisters bits with my Word Bearers.

Minos:

Minos-1.jpg

“No mercy for you.”

Minos had been a father before his ascension to Heretic Astartes, itself occurring much later in life than is typical. He does not speak much of this, but it is clear his son was slain at some point. Having had little to live for ever since, Minos throws himself into battles without much regard for his own safety. His sorrow and rage are such that they are palpable to friend and foe alike, and his squadmates don’t find him pleasant to be around. All respect his ferocity though.

Not too much to say with this one. I will say I sort of like the small pyramid of skulls I included (or I guess it's a trapezoid?)

Adocius:

Adocius-1.jpg

“…”

A fairly generic Word Bearer Legionnaire, Adocius preaches the word of the Chaos Gods and fights competently, but doesn’t offer up much in the way of a distinct personality. The Ultramarines alone have killed many like him.

Design Notes:

Yep, I phoned this guy in. Not all of my models are going to be fully fleshed out characters, just most of them. But this guy is one of those fodder, throwaway types who would be one of the very first to die in a given story. The shorter horns on his helmet are meant to symbolize that he's the least impressive of the bunch.

And that's everyone! I do plan on adding some Word Bearers Raptors at some point, but I don't know when that will be because there's this thing called "budget". But hopefully it will happen someday, as I have bios written for all of them.

Hope you enjoyed my Word Bearers. Iron Warriors are next.
