Imperial Agents not getting anything and all being 3dp makes sense in a way.

The entire point is to soup them with other armies, so they don't want to make the native IA army too good.

For everything else tho, it feels like if your Detachment was rated 3.8 ☆ out of 5 or higher in the meta its 3dp, which really kinda kills the hype for the new Detachment system.

Imperial Agents treatment has been a disgrace, really feels like a bait and switch from GW at this point. If they didn't want to support the codex, they should just have released it as an index, instead IA players saw the (full price) codex and battleforces released at launch and foolishly thought GW were commiting to supporting IA like all the rest.

The “assorted Imperial wierdos” lists have been kinda handwaved and ignored since 2nd edition. They are always in a strange place of trying to offer lots of options buy never really feeling right.

Just go back to the 3 "hunters" books.

It's an excuse to refresh GK, expand DW and I guess stick some random stuff in sisters.

I suspect this is the plan tbh, its the most logical explanation for the total lack of update on DW and IA.

I really hope that is the case! GW has almost all the models they need to do it already available, with all the Imperial weirdos out there now. Just need a multi-part Inquisitor with lots of options and an Inquisitorial Stormtroopers kit.

I'm all for it as an old school Witch Hunters fan, but I don't seem them rebranding Adepta Soroitas. I could still see their inclusion into the codex though

Ya know, something tells me that the Firestorm list I have will not majorly benefit from a few Deathwatch squads getting Furor Tactics or random Sisters models getting Sustained Hits on occasion.

That too does to a point make sense, as frustrating as it is. You don't want t bolt on extra rules to something already doing very well. (I'm quite annoyed that I can't use the Abhuman detachment with Grizzled Veterans. I mean it's been doing fine, but IIRC it's sitting pretty at 50% at the moment, not pulling Recon or Mech Assault numbers.)

That being said, I'm sure after the first three months and the meta starts to settle, we'll see some reductions in a decent number of the 3DP detachments.

I miss when 'what your army does and how it works' was determined by just picking the units you wanted. Ah well. Old woman yells at cloud.

I'm not sure it's been like that in 20 years.

Even going back to the 3.5 chaos dex the legions rules did some level of steering, or build-a-regiment of guard, chapter tactics for marines in 4th onwards etc.

Guess which edition was current when I left the hobby before coming back for 9th?

I think the main problem with IA is indecision, really. Are they an independent army or elements that can be allied in? Now, the latter makes the most sense to me, but both options could work if they committed to them - I’m not sure both can actually work (at least, work well) at the same time, though. So we get this strange approach to the faction that is reminiscent of a certain Katy Perry hit that I’ve, regretably, got stuck in my head and now, so do you. You’re welcome.

Yeah i was happy for my space wolves as all ours were (quite rightly) 2 DP

My admech though, urgh. Why is haloscreed/eradication 3DP (eradication has zero play data afaik) whilst hunter cohort (which won the world championship) is 2. And the priest 1DP is banned from joining the priest detachment.

All i wanted was to have a silly gun enhancement in haloscreed, was it too much to ask! :D

Yeah, agreed. My personal preference - both for IA and also for the not!space marines like Grey Knights and Custodes - is for them to all be additions to the Imperial armies that are actual armies. What's gonna work if the idea is to have a character and squad join your guard army probably isn't going to work as a whole army in its own right, not without a lot of unfun rules finagling.

I look forward to Deathwatch only being an army every other edition from now until the end of time.

They should have rolled Grey Knights into the IA faction. There is zero reason for them to be their own standing army when 99% of the time they go out as single squads under the command and request of an inquisitor and ONLY show up when there are daemons on or about to be on the field and leave as soon as they are banished even if the rest of the battle is still going on(that's someone else's job and they are too valuable to risk losing in mundane battles.)

So in a game that has lost a lot of customization since 9th, I HATE that there are people who want IA to lose more customization.

YOU may think that GK should only ever appear in mixed armies; others may think they should only appear as their own.

Obviously, the system that allows you to do both is the one that satisfies the most people. Therefore it should be the option we aim for.

And it IS doable. For all its flaws, it wouldn't have taken much to make the 10th ed IA book work.

Yeah advocating for factions to be removed or cut down really isn't a good look. The cat is out of the bag now, putting it back in is going to end with people hurt, advocating for that is just rude.

Yes, Grey Knights are an army now and should remain an army. The same goes for all the factions people say the same thing: Imperial Knights, Imperial Agents, Chaos Daemons, Grey Knights, Deathwatch, they all have rules and should keep them.

Blood Angels and Dark Angels got codices and they're significantly less unique than Grey Knights.

Yeah, I agree, actually.

One Space Marines book would be fine, just paint them to match the chapter you like.

*sigh* okay if we apply the same logic to other factions that you are all applying to these ones, then the only factions that should actually be in the game are Guard, Nids and Orks. Everyone else either only deploys in very small squads 95% of the time, or is such a statistically small faction that it makes no sense for them to be represented on the table top.

Since obviously none of those other factions are going to be removed, maybe stop calling for these ones to go too.
