Hello regular blood Angels,

I’m creating a DIY Chapter “The Setting Sons”.  They have a flawed geneseed.  As a result they believe that they are on a crusade to protect the Empire from Traitors but because they are a little unstable they could have a tendency to “fight to the death” in an irrationally beserk style.

I once toyed with Exorcists and suggested that they might beserk and I was told I could try using them like blood Angels.

I want them to be pretty standard battleline troops with heavy support.

Would my life become complicated/disadvantaged playing as blood Angels, limiting myself to a Blood Angel Captain and depending on size a unit of apptly named death company or two?

Not at all. Detachments may represent the preferred fighting style of certain Chapters but are not locked to them. From your Description, the Rage Cursed Onslaught Detachment might be a good way of representing your forces.

Great, it means a good deal coming from you.  I thought it might be an idea to take the points hit of 10 points and field them as normal Assault Intercessors which have OC etc but roll a dice at the start of my command phase and on a 6 they go berserk (black rage and so on, basically turning into death company).

How does that sound?

having them switch rules is probably going to be iffy with many people, but for fun narrative game with friends. Could be an interesting thing.

I'd just build a list with the tools at your disposal without throwing homebrew in personally, but that's my preference.

Might be worth looking at the rules for custom characters though!

Very much in the style of the flesh tearers.

I think you’re right about the iffyness not to mention the complication.  I like the idea of Orks having that whole More Dakka thing where they get a bit of a buff but it becomes hazardous (similar to the use of weirdboyz).  Sounds like a fun element. I was trying to make my Space Marines a little less Peter Perfect.

As for Home Brew, I need to do that to feel connected to my guys.

@Karhedron Rage cursed onslaught is perfect.

@Inquisitor_Lensoven and others…I realise that I have unconsciously and inadvertently “reinvented” blood Angels without the blood - Doh! LOL.

Is it deemed fair to NOT have my Assault Intercessors and Dreadnaught (who will be played as Death company) painted any differently?  They will be declared as such at the start.

It depends on whether there is any room for confusion. Will you be running regular Assault Intercessors and Dreadnought as well? If you are then it could be a problem as you will need some way to distinguish them from the "death company" versions (doesn't have to be full DC livery, just something that your opponent can use to easily identify which is which). However, if you are not running the vanilla versions then go ahead.

I was thinking ALL Assault and ordinary Intercessors are “death company” so that should be fine.  As for Dreadnaughts, is there any advantage to having a DC one?  It seems the vanilla Brutalis Has a useful Charge buff rather than the rage one.

Brutalis vs DC Dread depends on which buffs you prefer. It is more of a sidegrade than an upgrade. If you are running the Rage Cursed Onslaught Detachment then it worth taking a DC Dread because there are a couple of good Stratagems that only target Death Company units.
