HeadlessCross
Title says it all. While we won't have points until later this week, theory crafting can be buckets of fun, and I'm sure some of us in here are already doing that. As expected, CSM got several 3DP detachments and this was expected with how strong those rules are. However, several of the 2DP ones had interesting rules and just needed a slight helping hand. In particular, the new Havoc/Obliterator and the Battleshock 1DP detachments are plug and play if you wanted to use those units in particular. The Cabal one is.......not good unless you just wanted slightly better non-Khorne Daemon Princes or an HQ that won't suffer penalties in melee with the enhancement. One combo that caught my eye in particular was using Warp Strike Champions + the new Havoc/Obliterator detachments. While they seem polar opposites to each other (at least with Oblitators), it enables some wicked Rapid Ingress plays and objective control in what seems like a low model count army. This is all theory of course, but I'm thinking along the lines of: Huron Kravek Jump Lord w/ Tzagulla 1×10 Terminators 3×2 Obliterators 2×5 Havocs w/ Lascannons 1×5 Havocs w/ Autocannons 1×10 Raptors 3×1 Rhinos I don't expect it to be THE best, but just something I think could potentially catch people off guard. I'm working out another list to take advantage of Fellhammer with a couple squads of Obliterators as well, but nothing is finalized yet. Dr_Ruminahui
I'm not a big fan of any of the new 1 DP detachments for my HAs, so I'll probably keep running my HA army as Renegade Raiders, which is 3 DP. That said, that may change as I get a better feel of the mission pairings - if I don't like the missions, I might try a different detachment with a Disposition that I like better. That said, I'm probably not going to be playing my HA for a while, as I'm still focused on my EC. There, I don't play coterie (I realize the mechanic is powerful, I just can't make it work for me), which leaves me wide open with a bunch of 2 DP detachments - which one I settle on will again probably largely depend on the Dispositions, as I have no clear favourite based on the detachment traits and strategems. In the short term, I'll slot in the 1 DP battleline buffing detachment - in the long term, when I get my flawless blades painted, I'll try the the 1 DP one that buffs them. Your list looks fun, and quite different from anything I've played - let us know how it goes. Tallarn Commander
My Night Lord's might enjoy Murdertalon for 1 DP and Felhammer Siege Host for 2 DP. My Raptors would get some fun offensive buffs and my entire army would get Felhammer's defensive buffs. In particular, I'm looking at the Terminator detachment combined with either Peerless Bladesmen or Court Of The Phoenician. I also saw online someone wanting to do Carnival Of Excess with the new Flawless Blades one. 20 hours ago, Tallarn Commander said: My Night Lord's might enjoy Murdertalon for 1 DP and Felhammer Siege Host for 2 DP. With Battleshock being more persistent, it makes a Raptor splash feel like less of a handicap. MadEdric
I'll probably start off with my World Eaters using the 3 1 DP detachments. Kharne takes the kids and pets out for fun. I am looking at Cult of the Arkaine with Devotees for my first CSM game. Galron
Im looking at Warpstrike champions with two bricks of terminators with Morne and a sorcerer plus a pair of oblit teams, then the heavy weapon and oblit 1DP detachment. Seems fun. Has two of each of my favorite units(terms and autocannon squads)and some cultists. Not sure how competitive it will be. Still debating on adding a jump lord with the weapon enhancement and raptors or a pair of legionnaire squads. After the point reveals I ultimately decided against the Havocs myself and just max out on the Obliterators as the main game plan. I'm looking to try the following in the next few weeks: Huron Kravek Jump Lord w/ Plasma Pistol, Power Fist, and Yzagulla 3×2 Obliterators 1×3 Mutilators 1×10 Raptors 1×10 Terminators 2×1 Vindicators I'm absolutely unsure how the Mutilators will perform with Kravek. I'm guessing not great, but I'll give them a go (not sure how I'm proxying them just yet, will probably just borrow a buddy's extra Obliterators). I originally had no Mutilators or the Vindicators, and leaned into two Havoc squads and Rhinos, but there's just no durability there. Vindicators still seem like one of our best units. Galron
I have always fielded Havocs/heavy weapon squads/Vet legionnaires(depending on the edition). In 10th they usually did very well for me. With the increased terrain they might not get the long fields of shooting that they used to get but they will be effective at shooting up enemy transports/battlesuits/MSU scoring units. I did the points and found I could even include the warpsmith with enhancement that heals and brings guys back(I assume thats what it does). I updated my Boom list centered on 3 Vindicators and a Typhon. Maybe the Arkifane detachment with Cabal. I basically bring the 4 siege tanks and fill the rest with legionnaires with the book giving them all psychic, a term sorcerer for support and a Chosen deathstar with lord and master of executions. Just have to figure out the disposition between Priority Assets or Disruption. If someone wants to eliminate a squad that is in LOS, it will NOT be hard. That's why I feel Warpsmiths, especially with Enhancements, are gonna be a trap there. Galron
Heres my list I want to try as soon as I finish building a Chosen squad: Cult of the Arkifane, Cabal- probably Priority Assets Lord with Mark 5+ crits Sorcerer in term armor- Master of Executions- Font of something or other Warpsmith with crown-boosts all of his skills cultists to hide in the backfield at home or to take a late game run at the center or expansion 4x 5 man squads of Legionnaires with the chaos book 10 Chosen 3 vindicators 1 Typhon 1 rhino Once I get my immediate stuff done namely a new squad of terminators and the Chosen + my stuff for my DE I have a fellblade I got for Christmas still sitting in a box I might bring out to replace the Typhon. The other combo I want to try is Warp Strike champions and Devotees of Destruction and again use Priority Assests(not a fan of disruption) Kravek Morn Sorcerer Terminator with Eye of the warp Jump Pack Lord with Tzagulla 10 terms 10 terms 2x5 Autocannon Havocs 2x2 Oblits 10 Cultists Raptors Corsair Raiders Corsair Raiders Here I was on the fence. Ill have to come up with the two Corsair raider units. I was also considering both a second squad of raptors and raiders but again I would have to build the raptors. I have the pile of shame boxes to build both so no biggie. I might look at the new raider models just to see if I like them better than HH armor. Galron
Every squad gets the psychic keyword thanks to the book, right? Its just a +1 to strength for their ranged weapons. It doesnt benefit the rest of the army I agree and even that is a minor buff but none of the other 1DP detachments would help either. Now that New Recruit is updated I can fiddle around easier and dropped the warpsmith in favor of some bikers. Iron Father Ferrum
I'm going to try Deceptors & Cabal to start. Base Sorcerers giving my infiltrating Legionnaires starting on midfield objectives an accumulated -2 to be hit by most shooting is tasty. I was also going to put a Touched Warpsmith with autocannon Havocs. S10 wounds Terminators on 2+, and D3 means each wound that punches the armor kills a Termie outright. The combo does lock me to Disruption for my Force Disposition though. All those infiltrating Mobs and Legionnaires will be good for doing immediate actions on objectives, at least. It'll be fun to see how it works out. TheDarkOne
I played a ton back in the day, I think I stopped around 2016 though when my son was born. i have been to Adepticon twice and my team even won best painted one year. i have been to 'Ard boyz finals in Philly and Chicago I think 2013/14, and I have won a bunch of tournaments and my best prize was a forgeworld greater brass scorpion for winning best overall with grey knights with 3x double auto-cannon dreadnoughts in that super strong codex right when it came out. Now my son is old enough to play! Which means I'm getting back into it! I've got all my old armies (grey knights, orks, daemons, csm, traitor guard) living at my buddy's place for the last 5 or so years. so, instead of getting my old models back, i started building csm, word bearers (I'll put up some pics eventually). I tried to pick the game up in 10th but didn't have the time to play enough (and was thoroughly scandalized by the first time my opponent just "fell back" out of combat and shot the crap out of me...). All that said i am super excited for 11th! the force dispositions and detachments are an awesome change, and I have 2 list ideas i am brewing, both using the Murdertalon Raiders and another 2dp detachment. at 1dp, the murdertalon raiders detachment does something super important, it lets you play purge the foe force disposition. i believe this to be our most favourable disposition as Chaos, just frikken kill stuff! that and it brings two excellent units into any army, chaos lord with jump pack plasma pistol power fist and pinions enhancement, joined to 10 warp talons. And Haarkan joined to 10 Raptors. These two units are strong in a fast mobile list and allow you to control where you apply pressure. And i find they fit well with both the Warpstrike and Fellhammer 2dp detachments. warpstrike is the most mobile crazy frustrating list I can manage, I'm still experimenting and deciding exactly what to bring but my next game will be with: Huron warp (1,990 Points) Chaos Space Marines Murdertalon Raiders and Warpstrike Champions (3 Detachment Points) Force Dispositions: Disruption, Purge the Foe Strike Force (2,000 Points) ATTACHED UNITS Attached unit 1 Huron Blackheart (120 Points) • Attached as: Leader (Character) • Warlord • 1x Tyrant’s Claw and exalted power weapon • 1x Tyrant’s Claw heavy flamer Chaos Terminator Squad (180 Points) • Attached as: Bodyguard () • 1x Terminator Champion ◦ 1x Chainfist ◦ 1x Combi-bolter • 4x Chaos Terminator ◦ 2x Combi-bolter ◦ 1x Heavy flamer ◦ 1x Paired accursed weapons ◦ 3x Power fist Attached unit 2 Sorcerer in Terminator Armour (100 Points) • Attached as: Leader (Character) • 1x Combi-bolter • 1x Force weapon • 1x Infernal Gaze • Enhancements: Akshur’s Binding Runes Chaos Terminator Squad (180 Points) • Attached as: Bodyguard () • 1x Terminator Champion ◦ 1x Chainfist ◦ 1x Combi-bolter • 4x Chaos Terminator ◦ 2x Combi-bolter ◦ 1x Paired accursed weapons ◦ 3x Power fist ◦ 1x Reaper autocannon Attached unit 3 Haarken Worldclaimer (90 Points) • Attached as: Leader (Character) • 1x Helspear • 1x Herald’s Talon Raptors (210 Points) • Attached as: Bodyguard () • 1x Raptor Champion ◦ 1x Astartes chainsword ◦ 1x Bolt pistol • 9x Raptor ◦ 9x Bolt pistol ◦ 4x Close combat weapon ◦ 4x Heavy melee weapon ◦ 2x Meltagun ◦ 1x Mutations ◦ 2x Plasma gun Attached unit 4 Chaos Lord with Jump Pack (110 Points) • Attached as: Leader (Character) • 1x Accursed weapon • 1x Bolt Pistol • Enhancements: Pact of Cursed Pinions Warp Talons (280 Points) • Attached as: Bodyguard () • 1x Warp Talon Champion ◦ 1x Warp claws • 9x Warp Talon ◦ 9x Warp claws CHARACTERS Lord Discordant on Helstalker (160 Points) • 1x Bladed limbs • 1x Bolt Pistol • 1x Helstalker autocannon • 1x Impaler chainglaive • 1x Techno-virus injector BATTLELINE Cultist Mob (50 Points) • 1x Cultist Champion ◦ 1x Autopistol ◦ 1x Brutal assault weapon • 9x Chaos Cultist ◦ 9x Autopistol ◦ 9x Brutal assault weapon OTHER DATASHEETS Chaos Bikers (70 Points) • 1x Biker Champion ◦ 1x Close combat weapon ◦ 1x Combi-bolter ◦ 1x Power fist • 2x Chaos Biker ◦ 2x Astartes chainsword ◦ 1x Chaos Icon ◦ 2x Close combat weapon ◦ 2x Combi-bolter ◦ 2x Meltagun Chaos Bikers (70 Points) • 1x Biker Champion ◦ 1x Close combat weapon ◦ 1x Combi-bolter ◦ 1x Power fist • 2x Chaos Biker ◦ 2x Astartes chainsword ◦ 1x Chaos Icon ◦ 2x Close combat weapon ◦ 2x Combi-bolter ◦ 2x Meltagun Chaos Vindicator (185 Points) • 1x Armoured tracks • 1x Demolisher cannon Chaos Vindicator (185 Points) • 1x Armoured tracks • 1x Demolisher cannon Huron could be a terminator lord with the artifact that allows them to be targeted w rapid ingress for 0cp, but i think the flamers will do some work. warpstrike allows me to pick up both units of terminators at the end of each of my opponents turns, and deepstrike them again the next turn, or hold to use rapid ingress on their next turn. With the strat that gives +2" charge to deepstrikers I'm confident the termis will do fine, the raptors and harkan harass a flank while vindicators and disco lord hold the middle, supported by deepstrike uppy-downy from terminators and warp talons (that pack a big punch with 6 powerfist attacks from the chaos lord now). And the lance strat too helps ensure the warp talons kill the unit the charge. Im brewing fellhammer+murdertalon too... maybe w masters of maelstrom fat huron legionaires ... we'll see! i know defilers are super popular right now, but they are so expensive, id rather have more dudes! Galron
One thing I have noticed in my 2 games is you absolutely need to build your list for your disposition. I have, in both of my games against opponents who either havent or they were still stuck in the old mindset and were playing Purge as if it was still 10th edition. Inadvertently, my lists worked well for Priority Assets and I was trying to play very simplistic lists whose 2nd detachment rules I still forgot half the time. We did in both games assume many what we thought we common sense rules from 10th still applied only to find they did not. I dont remember what VotLW's disposition is. If its purge you might be in trouble as you dont have a lot of especially killy stuff. If its take and hold you might be ok at 1k. I think a recon army will drive you nuts. But its a learning game not a competitive game. This weekend, I am going to bring my Night Lords against a random opponent whom I dont know. Warpstrike/Talons- Purge Kravok morn Worldclaimer guy Term sorcerer with Eye Chaos Lord with jumppack and lighting claws + the "Your a daemon now" enhancement 2 x10 terminators 10 warp talons 10 raptors 5 raptors 2 Oblits 2x10 Cultists Although when I head home I am going to check how many terminators I have and if I have all 30 I will play this: Warpstrike and Dev of Destruction- Priority assets Morne Term lord with Eye Term Sorc with Binding runes 3x10 terminators 2x2 Oblits 2x5 Red corsair raiders cultist mobs Dr_Ruminahui, Tallarn Commander and MadEdric 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388091-looking-towards-11th-what-detachment-combinations-are-you-excited-to-try/#findComment-6178360 Share on other sites

Galron
I tried the warpstrike/murdertalons combo vs eldar. More detailed version is on my Night Lords thread. I started coming back in the end but there are many things working against melee armies now. Just being able to say "excuse me" and step out of combat even if completely surrounded is outright broken. Eldar MSU recon is almost unbeatable. They dont care about their losses, the cheapness and the glass cannon nature of their forces mean they can nuke any non-heavy infantry with impunity if they put their mind to it while accomplishing their objectives at the same time both action and non-action. I granted I made a big mistake due to not knowing how they buffed up his one unit of wraiths since the last time I played them. But I dont think that would have made too much of a difference aside from keeping them free to wander around with their D-Scythes. By turn three they get their last triangulation and just max out primary with no interaction. Consecration is cool if you have units left to do it but if I remember triangulation makes more points than consecration.
