Take the fight to confined spaces in tunnels, space stations, and claustrophobic hive cities in the new Journal Tactica: Zone Mortalis. This tome updates rules for tense 1,500-point battles set in confined spaces, with plenty of new missions and some new units to try out in battles between bulkheads.

Curious if it's the old fat wall version that was resurrected for Necromunda or if they'll fully update to a thin wall Gallowdark/Boarding actions style setup.

I hope it’s neither/both. As in, I hope it’s flexible enough for any terrain.

I am super pumped this is coming out as a standalone book. In previous editions, I have been primarily a ZM player, so am really looking forward to this.

Any guesses what the new units will be? I'm guessing a breacher command squad

Veteran Despoilers would be thematically appropriate and a decent 'better late than never' addition.

Solar Auxilia Pioneers made from putting the Veletarii Storm Axes on to Lasrifle bodies I could see if they want to spread the non-Legiones love.

For generic stuff anybody can take, maybe Murder-Servitors and those drones you could take as Stratagems (GASP) in 1e's Zone Mortalis?

SGS probably want you buying 'their' kits over 40k/Kill Team, so it'll probably still be the Necromunda walls.

Honestly id hope for a boarding action version of 30k in the 750pt range. I think it would have significant legs and with the new stats it could have some good interactions

I would have loved that too, but it already says 1500 pt games. It seems like it would be a slam dunk to do a giant book like the Boarding Actions one, but I dare not hope for that. I will be happy if this book is just better than the pdf. That said, the Istvaan journal did have strategems in it the way the Black Book ZM rules did, so maybe those will return.

I do hope the missions and rules involve the head stats more and don’t lean into the Line arms race too much.

I mean it may say 1500 pts but honestly everyone is just going to use that as only a guideline. They've done lower point ZM since 1st edition so I wouldn't get hung up over 1.5k points listing. Sure, 750pt games will be weird but the main difference between HH players and 40k players is the willingness to adjust for the purpose of fun.

A pretty in-depth WarCom article on the contents.

Much like previous Journals, this one includes new Units, intended to be represented by kitbashes and conversions, that are an opportunity to add a little individual flair to any Army. There’s a new Army List profile for the Zone Mortalis-adapted, heavy flamer-wielding Mechanicum Castellax Infernus Maniple. The Solar Auxilia Army List is supplemented by breaching shotgun and boarding shield breaching Veletaris Raider Sections, with tech support provided by the Auxilia Combat Technician Section. The Legiones Astartes aren't left out, and gain profiles for both Veteran Despoiler Squads and Veteran Breacher Squads

This is confusing. We already have Veteran Breachers. Are they different somehow?

This makes them part of the 'Core' army lists instead of Legacies. Functionally it probably makes zero difference to 99% of people, though - especially since they'll probably not lose options due to still being a convert-it-yourself unit.

Ah, thanks. I forgot it even was Legacies. I have yet to meet a player locally who cares about that distinction so I wasn't considering it.

I’m not gonna lie, I am unreasonably amped about this now. Ways to make vanguard as well as control units valuable? Special tables for arguing with computers? Random events? Blips? New units and detachments? Siiiiggnnnn meee uuppp!
