Hey all, I've got a question for you. I'm making an Ironkin-only themed army, utilizing Ironkin helmets on all of my models, but I've run into an issue- there isn't a really good, dedicated Votann melee unit outside of Beserks. Hearthguard are more of a shooting unit and Steeljacks w/melee weapons are less killy than comparable opponents (plasma swords make them good tarpit units, but fists don't really have the amount of attacks to be truly nasty). So Beserks are really it, but they have way too much bare skin for me to make them into proper Ironkin. Does anyone know of a decent work-around/other models that may fit the bill? Thanks!

Another tack would be to convert the melee ironkin to have the same or similar weapons to the bexerk models.  So, two handed power axes, or a power axe in each hand.  I think opponents would be fine with any conversion that a) looks appropriate, b) is roughly the right size, c) and is easily and visually distinguishable and identifiable, even if they don't resemble to official GW models.

The only real problem with converting Steeljacks/Heathkyn is getting the amount of weapons I would need- currently it looks prohibitively expensive to get any sort of Beserk weapon by itself and buying the kit seems like the opposite of what I'm trying to do.

Lately I've been looking at AoS Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard- they have spears that could work, but the left arms with shields really don't fit the idea and I'm not sure what to do about that.

I don't know for sure as I have not seen the kit in person, but you may be able ot use the shiled arm witout the shield just fine.

Or use spare arms from any Hearthkyn/Yaegirs you have to give random small wepaons such as the knives, axes and pistols.

On another thaought, the Necromunda Squat upgrade kit comes with two two-handed weapons and a bunch of extra arms.

Of my 15+ Beserks, only 5 are from the actual kit... the rest are Necromunda Ironheads with various melee options, including the leftovers from the main kit:

The 'expansion' (Charter Masters and Drill Masters) gang is also good for Beserks... Basically I got 3 Beserks, 3 Thunderkyn, and 2 'Ironkyn Assistants' out of the one Necromunda kit. If you arm the exo-suits with the bolt gun and claws and put them on 50mm bases with an Assistant, they'd work for mole launchers instead of Thunderkyn, and then you could easily turn the fourth regular guy into a Beserk as well since there are two fists and two axes in the kit. All that's to say that this kit can get you a reasonable unit of Beserks for cheaper than the actual kit, if you're okay patching over some of the exposed skin at the elbows, and the obvious headswaps to make them fit in as ironkin.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Ironhead Squats- they have enough armor to pass as Ironkin without it looking too heavy/medival and the melee options are better than any others I've seen. Now I just need to plan out how this will all work...

Looks like I can get about 20 Beserks if I get a regular Ironhead squad and 2 each of the Chartermaster/Weapons upgrade boxes. That should give me enough for 16 "regular" Beserks and 4 mole launcher exo-armor guys, all with various melee weapons.

You will probably be short like four melee weapons by my count, but nobody is likely to care about 1 in 5 being an inferno pistolier instead of a fist, hammer or axe guy... Although from your army thread I can see you likely have plenty of Steeljack weapons around, which may well fit, since the Ironheads are short but quite chonky with BIG hands already.

If need be I can figure something out, one of my gaming buddies has Ironheads for Necromunda so I can probably bum some bits off him. Otherwise I will work out the extra Steeljack swords or maybe see if I can make the plasma blade gauntlet from a Hearthguard squad work.
